Sadly, the Sunbeam frame proved less robust than I had expected.
I had done a little over 1,000 miles on it, and all seemed ok until one day in December it started to feel a bit wobbly. I stopped to look for the problem, but didn't spot it. I carried on for another mile or so when there was a 'click' and the machine subsided onto the road.
I've no idea why this happened: there was no sign of rust or accident damage. Some may say 'what do you expect riding a frame that was 70 years old?' But the frame had spent the past 40 years out of use, and before that it had not really had hard treatment - I doubt that it had done more that 40,000 miles at the most.
