can Mario clear powder coat over an existing paint scheme?
eg this,

if flaky bits are taken off, clear powder would secure in situ decor better than clear coat methinks

I've cheated in the past in similar situations, on motorbike parts to keep the patina, and used synthetic enamel (truck paint) as it is easy to apply and no special masks when spraying.
