I realised the other day, I've finally got to the point where I've got a 14kg folder, a 7.5kg but disabled and currently unusable Ribble New Sportive, and my beloved but thoroughly "past-it's-best" Fuji.
The folder I'm only going to use in torrential downpour emergency-type situations or lend to mates when we pop somewhere local. The Ribble could be repaired down in the New Forest and cost me £150 or more to replace one of the stays, but... highly unlikely and probably not worth it.
My Fuji on the otherhand is a difficult one. It's seen me through the hardest training year (so far) getting me my strength back after cancer and has been as reliable as I could ever have wish, after resurrecting it in Jan...
...but it's got dents and dings and scratches. It's been out in the winter, through Thames-flooded roads of Windsor and Shepperton several times, it's paint's starting to fade, and it's destined to be my faithful commuter until it eventually dies.
That left me with one option for training and possibly crits this year - A new, proper racing grade bike! Obvs.
I've toyed with every idea under the sun, from getting the Fuji restored, repainted etc. and getting a top notch groupset and race forks for it to buying either a 2nd hand Look or 2nd hand BMC from forumungers.... but didn't have quite enough cash. Hovered my pointed over the buy button on the 2012 and 2013 BMC SLR01 framesets on Evans site... but no. SLR = Di2 only, so that was that idea out of the window.
Then there was the Scott CR1 or Foil bundled with Ultegra Di2 for £1500. Nope, No Di2 due in stock for 3 weeks.
Anyway I finally took the plunge this evening on the train home, and plumped up the cash for the frameset, forks and groupset to start building something pretty exciting...
