I think it may be because everyone thought Wiggins was a good bike handler and he got found out in a big way, although I reckon it was mainly in his head. Maybe if he had had Sean Yates screaming it from the team car things might have been different.
Froome was, is and forever will be a complete liability on his bike. Numbers count for nothing if you keep hitting the deck, which is one of the reasons put forward to explain away Froome's distinct lack of results pre-2011 Vuelta
