Seems you need machined for rim brakes so I am out.
I spoke to He'd in both the UK and the US about this. The UK lists them as for disc brakes but the US says their rim brake compatible. The braking performance isn't what you would get on a machined brake because the ano is comparatively smooth but they do have a braking surface, with a wear indicator to boot. That said I've chosen to replace them with the machined version on my wheel build fro this very reason.
I'd say that these rims would be best employed on a cross bike with discs or an outdoor track bike setup (hello herne hill)
