This shows the flanged Williams chainring I'm using. I don't really know what the purpose of this flange was intended to be, but it seems to me this type usually runs well. A lot of old, good quality steel rings had this flange, but no modern ones do. The chain doesn't rest on it and I'd be interested to know what its purpose was supposed to be, and whether it's really any use.
Anyway it fits perfectly for chainstay clearance with the spindle I've fitted, so I'm going to use it.
Also, the quadrant gear lever, made in Oswaldtwistle!
