This is my second CAAD4, love the frame so much after I sold my first CAAD4 I brought another one because they are probably the best bikes within my budget.

I'm going to keep this one (this time) and slowly slowly build her up.

That's nice - a proper dale paint job but fairly subtle too. Defiantly a keeper.

It's a matte coat which is lovely, although I nicked it for the first time last week, I was super pissed off, the paint comes off like a scratch card!

does anyone know what the r signifies on the cannondale model numbers ? are the frames basically the same and the r300 / r2000 signify different spec levels ?

r300 being 105 or the like and r2000 being da or

And the R simply means road as they name mountainbikes M etc

R is just 'Road'. The higher the number the better specified the components. Broadly speaking the frames would be the same across the series, although the higher end might have integrated headsets or BB30 if the CAAD model supported those at the time.

Is that you Tom?

I'm going to get the Ultegra one when it arrives - good bikes at a decent price

That's steep, and I'd say the CAAD5 is a later model then 2002, my CAAD4 is 2004. Should be under the 400 mark with that spec really.

This link has all you need to know about models pre-2008.

white cannondale is a track, had that 1 year before the forum started , blue cannondale is a road bike bought that back in 2002 or so
just having the gears set up by local bike shop and should be ready to collect this evening
they are having issues though, rear drops are everso slightly out and it's causing problems on the up and down shifts, it really is a fraction of a mm out but the 10 speed isn't liking it
doh !
trial run this evening though

Sorry there should have been a winky there.

It was a sort of joke about the fact that there's already something which is a CAAD track but it gets ignored because it's too mainstream.

Pah, mainstream. Really liking the frame to be honest, it's just a good quality alu track frame.

Hmmm. The capo is indeed weird. I think it's ignored because of what it isn't rather than what it is. It's just not a Cannondale Track.

Although the Saeco version looked rad.

I never really understood why the Capo wasn't that popular. I always thought the frame looked pretty nice. I guess part of it is the RRP.

Picked up my first ever dale about 2 weeks ago. It's a CAAD7 Optima with Shimano 9sp Ultegra, in the exact same Saeco colour scheme as the track CAAD5 above.

In. Love.

Can anyone give and indication is this is a good deal? Would be a winter/training bike rather than "best". Also trying to find the year so I can get the geo but my google fu is poor today. This is a 54cm.

it definately looks like a caad3 dropouts are right fat downtube and bb area
just the fact it needs tinkering might make it less worthy
check ebay for other caad3 and see what else you could get

There is one hanging in the window of this shop: http://cycleworx.myshopify.com/

It looks about 58/59cm.
And I am pretty sure its NOS. He has build it up pretty daft/fixeh skiddah style with bullhorns etc.
