| | Eating away at my sole Yeah I U'dTFS and there's three or four threads a bit like this but nothing exactly. The pedals on my bike have an annoying habit of eating away at the sole of my shoe, unsurprisingly where the greatest pressure points are. My old shoes had to be replaced because they actually dug two holes right the way through. The pedals are not very exciting ones off a Fuji track with toeclips. ![]() Robbed this image of a classified thread but it's those pedals. today I tried to grind the offending edges off with my Dremel but they stood firm. The trainers in question are Vans with the standard waffle sole which I bought because I reckoned they'd stand up better than my old Pumas. I'm not going to go clipless because of the cost and faff associated with carrying two different pairs of shoes around. The questions is, should I get some shoes with tougher soles or replace the pedals for some super advanced "don't fuck up your shoes" models, and if so, any recommendations? Or indeed, should I just stop complaining and replace my shoes every 6 months when the holes get too bad? |

| | I had exactly the same problem with those shimano style clips and straps, I went clipless but sound like in a round about way you're asking for recommendations for a pedal with a larger platform, the MKS gr-9 fit the bill perfectly: ![]() I don't think the shoe is the problem as I have experienced the same issues with Dunlop and Addias trainers |

| | Thanks for the help. The MKS GR9s look perfect. Nice and flat. As for the brand of shoe being to blame, at the end of the day I'm mashing two pieces of jagged metal into two pieces of rubber for an hour a day. Which one do you think will come off worse? As Gabe says, platform pedals are designed for use with "civvy" shoes like Vans, Adidas, whatever, are they not? |
