'77 Gazelle x2 (track and 753), '94 Gazelle and '88 Alan

Ok, so I've decided to indulge myself in the vanity of a personal CP thread..

Reasons being:

1) '77 Gazelle 753 Champion Mondial - mix of Campagnolo Super & Nuovo Record (picture's old, not envisioned build!)

bought this in fall of a guy who's dad passed away and leaving this in the garage.. A 753 in this livery from the 70's is quite rare.. Paint is used, but I don't mind..

I have completed in the meantime the period correct "gruppo", consisting of:

SR calipers, headset, seatpost, levers, BB, wheelset (Mavic MA2 rims, sod it, not PC!) and RD,
NR chainset, FD and pedals,
Cinelli 70's logo 1A, CdM bars and Unicator saddle..

Needs polishing, cleaning and general love and caring.. And most probably another set of CdM bars since these appear to bent.. (They are.. Very..)

2) '77 Gazelle 531 Champion Mondial Track - obscure Ofmega/Gipiemme/3ttt

I have recently bought F+F, BB plus HS, from an entrepeneurial 15 year old kid.. Shame it was quite more damaged then anticipated (and shown in photo's) when I picked it up, and already had my mind set on it.. Did barter a bit, but still think I overpaid..:( DA wheels are for showingtightnessoff purposes..

This is also in original 70's livery, in a very nice golden orange.. It was used for a roller racing game, so has marks on the forks and tt from the clamps.. Biggest shame is the seatpostclamp..

Normally looks like this (wrong angle, no better google)

Mine looks like this..

Looks like somebody took an angle grinder or summit to it for unknown reasons.. Normal seatpost bolts don't work anymore now, so the nut 'n' allen bolt will have to do..:(

Parts: "all" obscure period correct Italian, stricly no Campagnolo

Ofmega: wheelset (yet to arrive since looooong) to Mavic GP4, headset, pedals, chainring, crankset (modified road, looks like shit/this now after chemical strip of powdercoat, nice sanding job at hand..:( )

Gipiemme: seatpost, and crankset for the time being
(and if I decide to drill for brake, caliper and lever)
3ttt Criterium saddle, Redord 68 track stem and Superleggera handlebars..
BB is yet to be decided, there's a Sugino track in it now, I have a Zeus spindle/Campagnolo cups BB spare.. Would need Ofmega/Gipiemme.. Anyone?

3) '94 Gazelle 731OS Exception, Campagnolo 10sp Record/Chorus/Triple Comp

My road bike, upgraded from DA 8 speed to Chorus 8 speed to this mix 10 speed..
Front and rear fork are stainless Noblex steel, really cool, tubes are oversized..
Record crabon: levers, RD
Chorus: seatpost, brake calipers, chain (12-23 cassette)
Triple Comp: FD, crankset (52-42-30)
Centaur: (12-25 cassette)
Cinelli 1R, Bontrager compact bars, Stronglight needle bearing HS
Wheels are Fulcrum 5's yet to be destickered.. Need this, please help..:)

4) '88 (?) Alan, GF bike

Quite hurtful to talk about this one.. 'Cause we on a smallish break.. I'll update on this one when it'll progress.. For it now it is ripe for the picking of Rod Munch..;)

TL;DR: ignore text, watch pictures

Cheers,

Ruud

P.S: I live in a studenthouse, hence our roof terrace looking like a dumpsite..

Eagle eye.. Forks are straight, wheel is straight, case of axle not fully in dropout..

Read the rules, but found 4 threads a bit too much.. This is still quite an overseeable thread no, if a build progresses, it'll be recorded here..

^^^^^ Nah.. You could of course, but I wouldn't care..
^^^^ Cheers! Thing is, the fork is a thing of beauty.. They didn't come on road bikes that skinny and with double fork crown..
^^^ Bas, dutch classifieds again would be too much.. Most of the time it is actually cheaper to get things from the UK/here since they have small packets rate while we pay 6,75 minimum for packets that don't fit through the mailbox..
^It is, but it's also a place, if you seek well, to grab bargains you don't dare dream of.. Just takes time and effort and tbh, both I'm lacking nowadays hence this CP thread not getting updated.. :$

Plus, I'm still dicked about with them Ofmega track wheels and I'm actually really tending to get it to bad traders..

@Rodolfo They did use a copy of the track forks on one of the only Columbus build TT Gazelles, end 70's. Same crown (but drilled of course) and legs. Don't know if the rake was also the same though..

Getting off topic now.
Same fork crowns on Gazelle Columbus TT and track frame set just for one reason: round fork blades.
Later, Gazelle has used different type (Cinelli) of fork crowns for (track) forks with round blades.
Forks are different.
1.: length. TT frame needed longer blades to enable brake (59mm?) assembly. Track forks were designed to have approx. 2 - 3 mm clearance between crown and tyre. Brakes don't fit, no matter if the crown is drilled or not.
2.: Rake.
Gazelle road forks used to have a 42 mm rake. Track forks 25 mm.

Cheers for that, because as the forks were quite fubar'd (quite damaged near the ends), I thought it wouldn't matter to drill them.. Seems now that would've been pointless and clamp-on is the way to go..

Ok, finally some progress.. Partly because I wasn't really with my mind on bikes, otherwise since I now have exam period so you naturally spend time on non-study related things..

Had a problem with the road bike's FD..
Had to buy a new FD, which arrived sat.. Here's why this one works:

So, now the new FD (below) clears, the upper is the Record one.. Wanna buy it? PM me, it'll only give problems when your frame really is tight..

Secondly, I had to file the clamp down, since that also was rubbing.. My frame's soooo tight..

End result, excuse phone pics since I had to return the camera to the (now ex-)GF in the first post.. This means the Alan (f+f and some parts) is available, if interested, I'll venture to make pictures..

Bars already tilted down.. Stickers ideally are to be removed, but they're a biatch to remove, the hairdryer trick didn't really work that well.. Anyone experience with removing Fulcrum 5's stickers? Also not to convinced on the hue of the Centaur post.. Looks kinda blueish, tempted to polish it.. Prefer the more modern seatpost to the aero chorus one.. I'll tinker more when I'll ride her somewhere this week..
Still need this btw.. Anyone?

Next up is the Gazelle track I think.. Got a clamp on brake in some weeks ago, wheels still MIA.. Several emails still ignored, after again being promised that they'lld be posted.. I think of getting it to Bad Traders and get me effin' money back.. Although quite sad them perfect Ofmega track wheels 'll never grace the build..:(

I'll now get back to Statistics, which of course is very necessary subject to be mastered by a future architect..

@dicki, mine's an early production run: '94.. They only appeared in the catalogs from '95 on, and indeed with straight forks.. Forks are OG, stainless and comparable fork ends.. I was told when I bought this this was bought from new by a Van Tuyl mechanic.. Guess they had access to early production models..
@Florian: It indeed is very tight.. I have frickin' toe overlap on my road bike! Was actually planning to try 25's on this to go on with the trend in the pro peloton but that simply won't fit.. Madness, with a wheelbase of approx. 95cm..
@Shame, cheers, and as said, those stickers still need to go..
@dbr, cheers to you too, once everything is dialled in I'll venture to make good photos with an actual camera..

Finished the Gazelle track too some days ago:

Only picture for now.. Wheelset is on-one rear to campagnolo front road to g40's.. My spare wheelset which I ended up using because the Ofmega wheels in the second post never showed up.. I'm taking that to Bad Traders tomo because I've given the seller a deadline to respond this weekend, otherwise it'ld be BT and of course I haven't heard a thing..
Gearing is 52-20, nice and spinny, seeiing this as my sunny town cruiser and my Graham Weigh as racer beast.. But I also have a very nice 3ttt track combo which I'll eventually use.. And I'll probably change to tan sidewalls somewhere next month.. Toe overlap is crazy, rides nice... Campagnolo track headset will also be probably be swapped for an Ofmega, for the sake of the Ofmega project..

Wow, has it been that long?!

I have acquired ALL components for either the 753 (bar nice gumhoods) and the track (bar brake levers, yes, it'll be a tarck bike).

Many thanks to El_Diablo for going the lengths to get that Ofmega track wheelset to me. It is now waiting in the storage unit to be rebuilt to clinchers (not originally planned, but didn't want to faff with tubs on the street), because I've unexpectedly fast relocated (actually, will tomo) to Berlin for a semester of internship.

I hope to return briefly in a couple of weeks and build the track Gazelle and bring a fixed bike with me.
The "most sensible and versatile Gazelle tourer" I'm taking, although versatile and sensible, won't cut it. I hardly slept last night because I had visions of harlequin black and orange tressoplast cotton bartape and fully Ofmega built..

Anyways, I'll report back when it get's there..

Ok, was back this week to do last arrangements, family + friends time and get my Gazelle.

Anyways, first up was to get the wheels rebuilt to clincher:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7114/...434a459b_b.jpg

And, those holy puppies which took me a lot of effort, grief and PM's:
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8437/...185995d8_b.jpg

Rims are Matrix Titan Tour of which I'm gonna ignore (and desticker) they're not p.c.. There nice and wide (22mm), so I'm gonna go with the trend of wider rims. Nice charcoal anodising. Built to resist (tm).

Anyways, back in Berlin the delivered by faith Ofmega P BB spindle had arrived. I was not anal about the spindle, but when it came along for cheaps, it was foolish to resist and to be able to actually say: FULL Ofmega.
Only thing next was to decide on crankset:
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8433/...0136014a_b.jpg

Left (CX model) is more beautiful, real Pista and 165mm but from early 80's, right is still nice, shaved strada but p.c.. I chose for the latter but bringing the other one if I change my mind. Chainbolts and dustcaps Ofmega too. Cool!
I made some faux pista pedals of off some traded bent cage Ofmega strada pedals with some files and a iron blade. I do not care this is not the real deal. Headset was already in my possession. Actually, twice, but one had come in 27mm race hence unusable and I needed to obtain a 26.4 one.
Seatpost is Gipiemme 27.2. Would love 3ttt, I'll get a wanted ad up for that.
I have some barcombo's for it: Cinelli with supernice stem for pictures as "track bike". Silly, I know. Day to day will be 3ttt track stem to 3ttt Superleggera bars with Galli levers which are hopefully now waiting for me in Berlin. I'll also take a basebar-tribar combo for the 2km sprints I've been doing with tommmmmmmm on Tempelhof.
Saddle is Arius. Please don't tell.. The nice 3ttt I got (first picture) won't be nice with brown and black I think.
Anyways: the, bar said adjustments, "finished" article. Clips are also to be bought (plastic cheap ones) and clamp on brake to be fitted.
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8299/...370c50ee_h.jpg
Also, tyres will be dead in a couple of weeks and then replaced. Can't wait to ride it!

Oh, and I have the choice of white, black, brown and orange cotton bartape. As in, already in my possession. Advise me. I'm tempted to go orange black harlequin on at least on bar-combo but also curious how brown would pan out. Black would be easy and easy winner with the decals and black/grey bits.

^Cheers, noted. I now found it's way on it too, toe overlap was still crazy with small clips, so i swapped. plus, they're too nice to not be using.

this is how it looked like on tuesday on a nice ride with tommmmmmm on here around gruenewald. the position is really comfortable, despite me thinking it would not be because of an old back on a young man..
changes are after this picture: i removed the right lever (lever only, "mount" left), had two flat tyres and effin' problems with my seatpost. the clamp is dodgy. i swapped it out for a nice and big m6 bolt and allen key of the local hadware store and a shim, but that died on me during our tempelhof ride today.
it's a looker, but a headache besides that from now...:( i'm looking to replace the tyres for pasela's or challenge's.. pasela's only come in 25 or thicker, challenge only in 23.. i do supsect the pasela's to be more fixieskidder resistant though. i'ld get to ordering those..

in an ideal world i'ld like to find a 3ttt black saddle, a 3ttt record seatpost and some obscure small italian toeclips.. but in the present here and now i'ld first like to get my seatpost secured into the frame..

thought of external seatpost clamps or angle grinders as possible solutions.. the angle grinder to make more room between the clamping parts so they clamp before they meet and thus not sufficiently clamp.. i just better bring it to a mechanic to check it out..
