Just looked back to the first page of this thread. Surprising amount of haterz from the old skool.

I think this thread now has a distinct identity: contains a mixture of porn and anti porn (primarily anti, lets be fair), but the paradigm in question here is more the pursuit of more basic non-bicycle-related aesthetic ideals, ie:

-Parts chosen because of their colour or shape rather than their function;
-Saddles set at heights that look pleasing but aren't comfortable;
-Bars rotated to angles to match the top tube rather than make it easy to hold on to.

Bicycles put together by people who don't ride bicycles!

And we find it funny, because we do ride bikes.

I agree there's a fair bit of straight anti in here, but when the builds are good they're miles better. A 'proper' HHSB has got nothing to do with anti, and everything to do with being a poseurs bike, if not a generic poseurs bike, with rugged posture.

See, for me the HHSB is more like the essence of the Rat Bike but blinged.. I think most of the bikes I've posted have been built to be ridden hard and enjoyed, and that are a good laugh to ride, look at Mr Kwans builds... I know that's what my aim was with mine.

Alot of them do sacrifice functionality for aesthetics, I mean, why else ride a pokk in the city? And there are many with silly bar angles etc, I've noticed that whereas I spend 99% of my time riding on the bullhorns, alot of people with pursuit bars spend the majority of their time holding near the stem.

Both your views are interesting, it's funny how we all see it differently.

I like this thread because - similar to the Rat Bike thread - it makes me want to ride my bike, because the people who put together the bikes here think that bikes are awesome and riding them is fun and so do I. Porn just gives me bike angst and makes me want to be a dick to to other people.

At the end of the day its people who have a passion for the cult of bikes, and some are all about the aesthetics, some just like nothing better than being on their own out on the streets at night reveling in riding as hard as they can something they built to fit them to the very last detail, with others its the culture, and still others its about the history and glory of racing, there's the tech heads and the trendys, the mates along for the ride or the now ex gf's or bf's who've fallen out of love with fixie hipsters, but in love with their machines and now have one of their own, sometimes its the style or fashion that attracts but ends up being the purity that keeps us here, each of our weird and wonderful machines says something about us (unless it doesn't... then ignore this!) and with some its more a means of expression than it is a means of transport.
