| | Quote: The MC made a bit of a prat of himself interviewing him, but he was a bit of a prat all evening anyway. Slightly OT, but love this pic from the Ugandan hill climb champs http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WTgbmuAmVG...Tippa_TRY1.JPG Rod brakes in competitive cycling FTW! | |

| | baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! BT have royally fucked up and turns out they allocated my boss tickets to the diving test event next weekend and not the track tomorrow. We were in France yesterday when he got an extremely apologetic email- he went ballistic and reckons they'll sort him out with tickets for the Olympics but I'm not so sure. proper gutted. :( |

Lots of the lesser known nations put in some questionable performances. The Finish rider couldn't hold his line at all. A simple couple of coaching sessions to help him ride a track better would have knocked several seconds off his time. | |

| | This was a lot of fun today. The venue is great (although one or two rows of seats at the turns have no view whatsoever of the track - all the people in that row had to stand), the atmosphere was charged, and of course any GB athlete was greeted with massive roars. Some great races, a few dangerous spills, lots of action. I found it a bit dehydrating with the heat and lights where we were sitting, and was quite wiped out getting home. It was warm but not unbearably hot. They were not strict at all about bringing your own stuff in. You do have to pass through airport style metal detectors alright. Best race of the evening (which I watched on the internet) was the womens elimination race as part of the omnium. Did anyone else see this? It was on after 9pm after the coverage on BBC2 ended. It was brilliant. Laura Trott must have avoided about five or six eliminations by a close whisker and managed to hang on, eventually ended up winning it, beating Tara Whitten from Canada who is a very strong contender. Amazing stuff. I think she is only 18 as well. Definitely one to watch in the future. |

| | I dont know how she did it. she was in a dangerous position for alot of those laps, its very easy to get bunched in/sometimes you cant speed up as theres no room ahead. once there was 4 left she had a perfect set up for a win, amazing how many sprints/accelerations she did and still was fresh for the the final finish. best race Ive seen in a while. |

| | Have just uploaded my pics and a little write up of the Friday PM session: http://ibikelondon.blogspot.com/2012...-to-track.html Loved the atmosphere on Friday night, loved some of the riding, loved the Ugandan Hackney CC rider, loved the venue. Really liked the "promenade" that went all the way around the track; was able to stand over the finish line for ages, and stand over the banking too, as well as hook up with some mates for a very price beer. The lights, which I'm guessing have been rigged for high def TV, really take it out of you. Mark's top tip: take a cycling cap and don't wear too much. Wish I'd got Olympic tickets now, although I reckon there were probably more people in the crowd who follow cycling at least to some extent than there will be during the Games when all the gravy trainers are in there with their free tickets. So the atmosphere was probably more electric for this than it will be for the Games. |
