There's something about that junction i've never liked. It's a pretty straight forward junction yet it's wierdly intimidating.
Horrible news.

On our way to polo yesterday small brown bike almost got taken out by a bus,

The bus was over taking to get to a bus stop in time and matt was between it and the bus stop. pedal curb strike. Lucky Matt smacked the side of the bus with his mallet... and squeezed through the gap.

Classic scenario really, you cant even assume that some one has seen you.

The more posts like these I read the further away I keep from anything bigger / big as a SUV.

Have to say though, I find buses give me room more often than not

Honestly,

i was picking something up at lunch and was out on the bike. Stopped at red lights a lady asked if she could go straight across the junction and who should give way. Both lanes opposite were one way, facing us. I'm not sure anyone really knows what they are doing. I have a good few stupid moments every now and again, but i understand that going into a one way street full of traffic is not perhaps the best idea.

My regards to the family, i'm not in any way saying this particular woman didn't know what she was doing.

Terrible news, makes me very sad to read.

As above, justMouse, I have no idea of the circumstances, but it prompted me to fwd the Moving Target guidance on HGV's at junctions to all riders at my work, asking people to read the link no matter how experienced they are.

Be safe all,

shit. I was cycling to work down through Stokey this morning when I got to Amhurst road an Ambulance motorcycle was traveling at speed up towards manor road. I remember thinking they must be going to a serious call now I know. Very Sad RIP.

the cyclist was riding south down stoke newington high street; the hgv was either travelling the same route or turning right out of manor road (former route is more likely)
the collision occoured just beside stoke newington train station, where the entrance to the alley and the jehovas witnesses church is.
the police were investigating right underneath the lorry this seems to suggest that the woman went right under the truck when the collision occoured.

my thoughts go out to friends and family who are now going through such a terrible time.

It won't be regular but it's an idea to have if we were to raise awareness, and the ghost bike thing as well, come to think of it i got a rusty old MTB bike in the shed...

anyone here can give away a couple of heavy chain to lock it up?

you got it, it's usually the visibility issue since the HGVs have a lots of blind spot especially when it's trailing goods, that and some HGV driver don't have any consolation for cyclists as well (i.e. driving while chatting on phones, making a wrong move to get to another lane etc.)

here's a quick example about the HGV's blind spot;

do you not use the cyclists own bicycle, sprayed white?
i mean - that would make more sense - it would be closer to the person concerned and be a more valid memorial... also it would require permission from the cyclists family, giving it added support...

however it would take a while to bring about as i imagine its now in an evidence lock up somewhere.

plus it's kinda a waste of a good bike when people have shitty bike that's no longer functioning in their shed, I mean, it's the idea that count really, a white bike as a memorial, regardless of how accurate/new/etc. it is.

Firstly my condolences,
secondly massive respect to Small Brown Bikes, and the project in general, makes the world seem a less bleak place some how.

Now a question, it looks like someone's "tagged" it, would it be improper to return it to white? There's no sign etc. does the tag have some meaning? Don't want to offend anyone, as I'm a newbie here, and as a "cyclist" I just live two minutes away and by pure coincedence joined the forum a couple of days ago, not really sure if this is the place to ask this so sorry if I've caused any offence.
