Cheers for the tips too - sounds perfect. As I said, the idea is to clean it up and maintain it without doing a full-on museum piece.
I imagine restoring it to museum piece standard would cost a fortune (NOS parts etc.)

Elbow grease FTW!

What do you think about this one? It is drilled for brakes. The seller said it is a 70s track bike, but I'm guessing it's older...

cottered cranks, i'd say 50's, maybe early 60's or late 40's. need a bigger photo and if it has grease nipples in headtube or BB shell.

I was thinking 50s. 27" wheels. Although they almost look too big, or not put the rear in correctly.

It does have the nipples. I'd never seen them before.

looks very period, my guess, late 40's or early 50's. 100% it's a path frame. not a daily bike, more weekend cruiser these days.

they can be light frames. but silly to split a nice complete vintage frame, with all period bits. if you buy it restore it and enjoy, don't ruin it with 700's etc

Thanks very much chaps, I don't really know as I have had conflicting info. It's Columbus SLX with Gipiemme ends and is mostly spearpoint lugged except the seatstays are fillet brazed into the seat clamp. I was pretty stoked when I got it.

I've been eyeing those covetously for a while I admit, but I've been a turbo man for a long time now and it took me ages to find the slim version. Lovely looking saddles though the supercorsa, that is certain.

don't forget to add glitter, they make it look like it's an expensive metallic job, but much cheaper (if you're powercoating).

check out velo orange, they have some nice mudguard, as for wheel, just go for Mavic Open Sport rims and System EX/Formula hubs.

big saddle would look good, it work extremely well on my girlfriend's build.

my gf is in Moscow for the year- so have time on my hands- and the bike I found her is pretty similar to that, but split 'top' tube.
her bike will be a lovely shade of purple, sturmey 3 speed, pm sent about baskets.

if you want to do all the cooking and cleaning plus uncomplicated sex with a bald late 30's male for a badly converted and painted steel step-thru with dodgy wheels feel free to PM me.*

*it's meant to be funny and obviously a joke if you find it offensive i'll delete it as after 4 Belgian beers my usually impeccable judgment and sense of decorum may be lacking.

Just sprayed the new forks up for the black lo-pro. Some strightblade steel jobbies that the bloke at my local bike shop gave me. Were originally a pretty horrible yellow/red 2 tone, now a nice glossy black :)
Best thing is, it'll barspin (JUST)

Expect some photos when the lacquer has dried enough for me to re-assemble.

Photos...

And the barspin "clearance"

Some shit in a can from the local car spray place. It's OK, not perfect. Glossy though!

6 or 7 coats of colour then 4 of lacquer. I might polish them when it's cured if I can be bothered...but I probably can't
