| | Emilie Gossiaux: Cyclist blinded http://www.emiliegossiaux.com/ Very unfortunate incident. Donate if you can. Or not. BTW I've no connection to this person (nor have any other info beyond the blog post below). I just read it on the Laekhouse Blog (http://www.laekhouse.com/blog/?p=1271) |

| | I am surprised that there has been such a tiny response to this. A deaf cyclist and artist robbed of her sight, and severely injured, by an unlicensed truck driver? I can't help but feel that had this happened in London and posted in Rider Down the thread would now be 20 pages long. LFGSS is usually at its very best and most generous when these awful incidents occur. I know some of you may have already donated a little money to help Emilie with her medical bills but if not please think about it now. Thanks |

Might be a good idea to add a bit more info to the title. | |

| | Missed this too. Definitly needs to be moved to rider down or retitled as Will suggested, don't think it matters where a cyclists gets hit. So good that emilie's cognitive faculties are intact. Hope she gets much better really fast. A worthy cause for donations (and easy to do with a paypal account) especially considering the inhumane healthcare available in the States |

| | Bumpage - back TTT you go! From the email I received... "She is still in recovery and struggling at NYU but has a positive outlook in life. At first she didn't want to live anymore because she was informed about her vision. Her left eye was too traumatized and has a zero possibility of her sight to return. Her right eye has a slight 5% chance for recovery. However, with a lot of faith and hope we continue to pray for her to see again. Miracles have already occurred, we witnessed it ourselves. After facial surgery, left femur fracture replaced with a titanium rod, pelvis fractures with screws, abdomen incision to relieve swelling, and a stroke causing slight right arm paralysis, she came out of her silent world after her boyfriend used his index finger writing on the palm of her hand. Please share with friends the website www.emiliegossiaux.com which is still a work in progress." |

| | Please Donate to Emilie Gossiaux Brooklyn art student and fellow cyclist. Hey guys just putting this out here. I know we have plenty of our own cycling accidents to deal with here, but I just thought it would be good to put this up here. Because it's in the U.S. any donations we make from here are worth even more there. A $5 donation is about £3.50 for us, not too painful and would make a big difference to Emilie and her family. On the morning of Friday, October 8, 2010 Emilie Louise Gossiaux was struck by an 18-wheel semi-truck while riding her bike in Brooklyn, NY. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan where trauma doctors performed emergency surgery to save her life. In addition to stroke, traumatic brain injury, and resuscitated cardiac arrest, she suffered multiple fractures in her head, pelvis, and left leg. She emerged from the ER in severely critical condition with a pessimistic assessment of her brain function. A “grim” prognosis was made of her chance for survival. Here's the main website, the link to donate is in the middle of the page. http://www.emiliegossiaux.com/ |

| | Donated twice... once from me, once from the forum... but don't let that be an excuse for you not to donate either. No matter how brassic January feels, it really really could be worse and you wouldn't notice your wallet being a bit lighter would you, nope thought not. Get to it. |
