Riding broken

Didn't realised how many riders ride the TdF with broken bones till they listed all the injuries among the riders today.

I rode (and taught cycling as a trainer) for around 14 days with a broken shoulder until the pain got bad enough to go to a doctor and get x-rayed. Have also ridden for 2 days with a split patella until it swelled up so much that i couldn't move the knee at all.

what riding have you done broken?

Probably easier to ride with some breaks than it is to walk.

i stopped riding when my shoulder fracture was discovered though it must have got jarred more on foot than on wheels

Broken ankle... Didn't know it was broken so carried on as usual just waiting for the pain to subside... It was easier cycling than walking, I just geared down more than normal.

Oh if you are including that I rode a mile after breaking my collar bone, then the pain got too much so I walked and carried the bike the rest of the way?!

I've also gone home from west drinks many times broken.

it is amazing that so many people are happy to ride with broken bones. On the occasional discussions about this with my GP her instinct is to advise not to cycle whaatever the injury

jostling with peds on the pavement and squeezing into tubes and onto buses was much more painful for my shoulder than being on my bike

I was told that by my GP.

The same about testicular cysts (and I know many members of this forum suffers or suffered from them).
Interestingly, an urologist told me, to carry on riding, as long as I wear lycra shorts to keep junk in place and use a good saddle.

I was also advised to play more Lotto by a surgeon attending my sprained handy-wandy last week. She's said, that I'm obviously a very lucky individual, because I haven't broken my collar bone yet (WTF?!). She must be in the know with all the cycling trends nowadays.

perhaps we are more likely to break bones as cyclists since it seems we have a lower bone density due to not bearing weight (or is this just bad science?)

Had to ride back home with this injury, ouch.

8+weeks later and not 100% fully healed but am able to cycle again. Now left with my right arm permanently longer than the other with a distinctive lump on my shoulder.

Rode my motorbike with a broken (pinned and plated) Fib / Tib. Had to carry my crutches with me because I couldn't really walk when I got off. Like someone else mentioned, a LOT less scary than public transport!

Yeah completely. Arm was hannging on by the muscle and not the ligaments.
Really hurt.

When it happened, three drunk guys crossed the road to see if I was alright. Nice to know some people are nice.

Thought as much... I had one ages a go but the doc's missed it, it wasnt until years later that when I was in for something else a doctor noticed the lump, had a look and told me I had previously had a type 2 separation, wondered why it hurt for about 3 months... sounds like yours was worse though..

Worst off I ever had saw me fracture both wrists and take a massive chunk out of my arse. Rode home 20 miles like that and could barey grip the bars. I needed to ride out the saddle at times because i had a huge hole where earlier I'd had an arse cheek but was in agaony everytime I tried too. Excrutiating.

Ridden with a broken wrist, only briefly before it was put in the cast. Then rode with a cast after the first two weeks. Don't recommend it, really.

My left hand is still fucked after breaking the pinky finger and the outside bone through the knuckle. Stayed off the bike till the pins were removed but I ride it now. Still can't make a fist, or straighten the finger out and my grip strength is shit. But the NHS has given me loads of putty and exercises to do to make it better.

I'd like to think that eventually it will be back to normal.

I ride fixed sometimes up to the park with this set-up. It's a weird feeling after speed humps when the weight of the trailer and passengers makes the rear wheel skid forwards. My two kids are probably heavier than your littl'un though.

It skids. But forward ie. pushed by the weight from behind, on his own accord. I think he meant involuntary skids.

I think it's when the bike's momentum through weight pushes faster than you pedal and so the back wheel skids... Am I right?
