What does it mean for hipsterism when your look is easily and commonly obtained from high street stores? Full circle etc.

I still find it confusing that your run-of-the-mill bunch of wahey lads that used to intimidate me is now a bunch of lads wearing plimsolls and skinny jeans. That used to be why you called me a bender!

As soon as this happens, it is time to abandon ship I'm afraid. Over the years I have had to stop wearing, amongst other things,

Trilby hats
ripped jeans
safety pins
Mohican hair cut
Converse trainers (I can still just about wear the plain black ones)
tweed jackets
Ray bans
Parkers
nipple rings
stockings and suspenders
mink coats
my wife's head as a hat

Those twats in the H&M fixie video aren't hipsters. The fact that that video exists proves that they aren't and the look isn't.

You've gotta go back a few pages to Schick's post before you find anything resembling a hipster in this thread.

Is there a big fixed gear "scene" in Indonesia? I've noticed more than a few random Indonesians pop up on here asking questions.

Seems like an unusual place for it to take off.

I think I've said it a couple of times in this thread, that a lot of the people who get derided as 'hipsters' in this thread are just young people having fun in the fashion of their time. There is definitely the odd fashion experiment that goes awry, but no worse than in our own photo albums from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s ... (delete as applicable).

And you probably still can't tell how much someone enjoys riding a bike just from a picture. That is, unless the world has changed since I last checked.

I reserve the right to rip the piss out of all these johnny-come- lately, bearded, skinny-jeans wearing 'fixie' riders and food photographers. Just as I had the piss ripped out of me in my youth.
I feel very lucky that digital cameras were not available to record my innumerable fashion faux pas of the 80s.

Perhaps it's fun to point and laugh because we have all been pointed at and laughed at. I point and laugh at myself, too. There is a comedy inherent in the seriousness with which we all, at some point in our lives, take our appearance. Alot of us looked hilarious when we were young, but mostly because we thought we looked cool.

That's why I ripped into the H&M guy. And also, there is humour in someone who believes they look distinctive, but who is infact buying into a carefully coordinated maketing strategy, and H&M guy, and his BLB turdbike, sum this up succinctly. Perhaps I have a superiority complex, but I am always open to having the piss taken out of myself in equal measure.

I'm hardly a dedicated follower of fashion, but I've genuinely never understood either of these. The quilted jacket just makes it look like you've put it on inside out. The buttoned up shirt makes it look like either you've forgotten to put a tie on or you've got OCD and can't stand the idea of having all the buttons on your shirt done up except one.

Breaking Down Today’s Biggest Posers

I'm bringing back the word "poser" (or "poseur" if you wanna be a French dick about it). Straight up. This whole everyone and everything is "hipster" bullshit needs to stop. The term "hipster" is just too vague to be used as effective slander. It's fucking lazy and ultimately very confusing. The hipster stigma became too convoluted for me when people started saying that being into unpopular things became too popular and proclaiming such was, in fact, the highest form of hipsterdom. See how confusing all that was? The term "poser", on the other hand, is solid. It's a classic that should've never left the public lexicon in the first place. Most importantly, it works perfectly.

Now, I don't expect this piece is going to go down smooth for everyone. After dropping lavish scriptures on my thoughts regarding tattoos some people or, rather, some people that think Internet comments can change the world, got their itty-bitty fweelings hurt. Before I go in on various types of poserdom allow me to preface with this: Being a poser is the way one carries themselves. It's not a uniform you can wear, though I am about to GO COMPLETELY OFF on a few of these uniforms. We all have done poser-ish things in our day, but some dudes are out here trying to win trophies at it. The key takeaway is that some of the following outfits and trends just try a bit too hard to be something that, well, just isn't and never will be.

With all that fair and balanced garbage out of the way, let's discuss (read: eviscerate via slander) poser try-hands and their current most popular forms.
