Correct. Having lenses that are fake is ironic, but having no lenses at all is making an ironic comment about the initial irony.

That semi-smirk most be worn at all times with those frames on.

in my day it was just called bumfluff

your dad or teachers would take the piss and say things like "go stand outside and let the wind blow it off" or "get the cat to lick it off" and the girls giggled whilst the stricken pubescent boy cringed with embarrassment.

except in my case, I was "lucky" enough to grow a full beard when I was 15, enabling me to buy booze in any pub and offie. I imagine that situation is similar with todays yoot.

want everyone to see that they did it first

want everyone to care
but it's fun when we don't care, so i tell them like this

oh no, oh no, here we go again
it's the life of the perfect scenester

and now they listen to emotional music
when they used to like punk rock
or maybe now they like junk rock
and swore they never liked punk
and they always talk about shows
but i never see 'em
and when i do they're just bummin'
still haven't figured out that

and we just can't wait for what they got next

and they do it for the girls
yes they do it for the girls
but it's all the wrong girls in control of them

This guy has solved it: http://www.adbusters.org/magazine/79/hipster.html

"An artificial appropriation of different styles from different eras, the hipster represents... a culture lost in the superficiality of its past and unable to create any new meaning. Not only is it unsustainable, it is suicidal."

"The hipster represents the end of Western civilization – a culture so detached and disconnected that it has stopped giving birth to anything new."

the only thing more retarded than hipsterism is the intellectualisation of it. giving it cultural weight only deepens the mystique/horseshit. FFS.

not to mention the word itself... 'Hipster'... cringe. It's like 'stylemeister' or something. fuckin hell. yet another import.

a Hipster is someone who has latched onto a fad/style etc just as it has left the underground and entered the mainstream, thus giving the impressions to the wider world (and strongly believing that hey themselves are) that he/she is at the cutting edge, whilst in reality those pushing the envelope have moved on to pastures new

There are tons of new looks emerging. People don't sit down at the beginning of rocking a look & thrash out a defining name for it, so it's very easy & lazy to bundle them all into the 'h' catagory.

I liked the comment earlier about stylemeister... there is truth in that.

Also, hipster reminds me of 'youngster' which is what my Gran used to say

No self respecting Hipster would be seen anywhere near a fucking bike. The term comes from the bebop era in jazz and mostly involved listening to the latest sounds and being cool with a little H thrown in for good measure. Can you imagine Charles 'Yardbird' Parker on a Pista with deep V's? Miles Davis on a Langster? I think not.
These people are Wankers not Hipsters.

If we're doing lyrics then look no further than Billy Talent

"Urban Hipster, the new gangster… frontin’ by the club
New wave mannequins packin’ haircuts, instead of packin’ guns
Magazines form overseas, won’t teach you how to feel
They trade in their hearts for indie rock charts to tell them what is real

When did they assume… putting on a costume?
Gave them a right to… ostracize
Out of the woodwork… art aficionados
Answer one question…

Where is the line? Where is the line?
Between your fashion and your mind

She sells street cred with no smile, at the local record store
She’s acting the role and dressing the part, pretending to be bored
The truth about conformity, is it bites without a sting
Trends come and go, but when your alone it doesn’t mean a thing"

Or maybe Sloppy Seconds' classic

"You've seen them in the malls
A bunch of kewpie dolls
You've seen them in the halls at school
They just wanna dig the rave
I just wanna dig their grave
And plant 'em somewhere near the pool

C'mon, it's time
To the kill the trendy
Everybody knows they deserve it
It's not a crime to kill the trendy
Everybody knows they're full of . . ."
