Audax, Sportive, Touring Frames - Raleigh, Iceni, Racelight, Pinarello, Claud Butler

Hi everyone,
I’ve just sorted out another lot of interesting and bargain frames. Shipping on frames within the UK will be £11 - other items can ship free of charge in the same box. I can ship anywhere in the world at a reasonable cost.

I will be at Herne Hill on May 1st so items can then be delivered free of charge.

ALL ITEMS ARE IN BRISTOL

Payment can be via bank transfer (preferred), cheque or the dreaded Paypal which costs me 3%…

If you dib an item, please PM me and pay the same day unless you make other arrangements with me.

Viewing/Personal collection is welcome as quite a few have found and have been able to get other parts they are looking for at the same time.

Hilary Stone

RACELIGHT T AUDAX/SPORTIVE LIGHT TOURING FRAME late 1990s
Seat Tube (ctc): 45.5cm (51cm ctt)
Top Tube (ctc): 53cm (21in)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop 55mm)
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: 7005 Aluminium butted
Small light touring/Sportive/Audax frames such as this are really quite uncommon. This Racelight T frame with rack and mudguard mounts has mudguard clearances for at least a 28mm tyre yet taking a standard deep drop Shimano dual pivot brake. This frame is a compact design with sloping top tube. It comes complete as shown in the pics with headset, front derailleur mount and stem. The paint is in very good/excellent condition and there are no dents or dings. A bargain at £95

CLAUD BUTLER MAJESTIC TOURING FRAME c1983
Seat Tube (ctt): 23.5in (59cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.75in (57.5cm)
Rear dropout width: 125mm
Seatpost size: 26.4mm
Wheel size: 27in or 700C (brake drop 60mm)
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531
The Claud Butler Majestic touring frames built with Reynolds 531 tubing from the 1980s are really rather classic - this one is in very good condition with original paint and decals and rear carrier. £85

RALEIGH TOURISTE TOURING FRAME 1988
Seat Tube (ctt): 60cm (23.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 57cm (22.5in)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted main tubes
The Touriste was Raleigh’s second in line touring frame that I think shared the geometry of the more expensive Randonneur frame but was built with Reynolds 531 butted main tubes only rather than throughout. This will make a very good tourer. £79

COUGAR AUDAX/SPORTIVE LIGHT TOURING FRAME c1990
Seat Tube (ctt): 53cm (21in)
Top Tube (ctc): 53cm (21in)
Rear dropout width: 128mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop 50mm)
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Columbus SLX
This is a rather good late 80s I think road frame built by Cougar of Liverpool from Columbus SLX tubing. The paint is generally very sound except around the BB shell area – this could easily be locally repainted. An excellent basis for an Audax/Sportive frame which is capable of taking guards with 23/25mm tyres but not needing deep drop brakes. It would also make a very good fixed/singlespeed conversion. £83

ICENI AUDAX LIGHT/TOURING FRAME **NEW & UNUSED**
Seat Tube (ctt): 22in, 56cm (centre to top of seat tube) 21in, 53cm (centre to top of top tube)
Top Tube (ctc): 56cm (22in)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop of approx 50mm)
Bottom bracket threads: English
Headset; 1in threadless
Frame tubing: Reynolds 520 butted tubing
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
The Iceni frames are I think manufactured in the Far East - really rather nicely from Reynolds 520 butted steel tubing. This model has now been dropped for 2010 in favour of aluminium frames. Its never been built up - hence the long steerer tube and has rack mounts front and rear, there are clearances for tyres up to about 25mm with guards. They are on sale at £250 at http://wilsoncycles.co.uk/frames.htm £115

BRITISH EAGLE TOURISTIQUE FRAME 1980s
Seat Tube (ctt): 62cm (24.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 57cm (22.5in)
Rear dropout width: 125mm
Wheel size: 700C
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
From the middle 1980s this British Eagle Touristique touring frame is in very nice condition just ready to be built up into a very good tourer. Its fitted with braze-ons for cantilever or V-brakes and also has fittings for a rear rack. Large frames such as this are really not very common. £95

PINARELLO FORMA AUDAX/SPORTIVE FRAME c1993
Seat Tube (ctc): 47cm (50cm ctt)
Top Tube (ctc): 51cm (20in)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop 53mm)
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Pinarello Forma steel butted tubing
This is an extremely nice Pinarello Audax/Sportive frame built probably around 1993 with mudguard clearances for at least a 25mm tyre yet taking a standard deep drop Shimano dual pivot brake. A rare little frame. With horizontal dropouts it could also be easily used as a singlespeed/fixed conversion. £125

FLANDRIA ROAD/SPORTIVE FRAME 1980s
Seat Tube (ctc): 53cm
Top Tube (ctc): 54cm
Rear dropout width: 125mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop of 50mm)
Seatpost size: 27.0mm
Flandria frames from Belgium are rarely seen in this country but are rather nicely built. This one has clearances for guards with 25mm tyres and has been nicely powder coated red. It could also be easily used as a fixed/singlespeed conversion. £125

Hi, will the Raleigh frame accomodate Dawes galaxy parts from an 80s 531 frame? I totalled the latter recently, but everything else is fine. Also, fixed-gear possibilities?

I would imagine that all the parts from a Galaxy should fit as long as it has cantilever brakes...

The geometry of a touriste is not really suited for fixed. It's a touring frame.

How would the geometry of a touring frame not make it suitable for fixed? A touring frame's geometry is very similar to that of many clubman's frames of sixty years ago that were ridden continuously on fixed...

If it were me (and I have a touriste frame in fact, they're great touring frames) I would go for something with tighter clearances and more of a racing geometry.

It's obviously personal opinion but for me the point of a fixie is to get a light, responsive bike. The Tourise will be more relaxed and comfortable and as the name suggests, is more suitable for a touring setup.

Is the Cougar Audax still available, dibs if so. I live in Bristol, could I arrange a viewing for early next week?

This chap doesn't look fussed about tighter clearances..

Hello all,

Thanks, for all your comments. You're right that clearances aren't really a priority for me, I'm a tourer at heart. Just wondered if it was at least possible for a cheap conversion just to try out the fixed gear thing (it's all a but new to me)---might be fun.

dibs on the raleigh touriste!

(PM being arranged).
