Evans Discount... anyone thinking of buying a bike from Evans in the near future?

so... i want to get myself a flashy new campag groupset, which i thought i would be able to get on my cycle scheme at work.... but it seems Evans dont sell groupsets.

So, is anyone thinking of buying a new bike in the £500-£700 price range in the near future? If so, give me a shout and maybe we can work something out. Can be any kind of bike, not just track.

I get what you want, i sell it to you with a decent discount off RRP, and i buy my groupset... seems feasable to me, but i could be completley wrong!

advice on weather or not this is possible appreciated.

er, the legality might be an issue.
the cycle to work scheme means that the bike is the property of work.
i think.
ask clive, he's the lawyer on here.

It is, until the end of the agreed loan term, at which point you buy the bike for its residual book value.

ps. sunshine on a rainy day.

I have a friend at work who did something similar.... said it was fairly easy if you do it on-line.
there are alot of people at my company... they have alot more important things to do than check who's bike is who's.

I sold a bike I bought on cycle2work before the end of the loan period and I didn't do jail time for this heinous crime.

I'm up for it. Take it offline. Send me an email or text or something.

I'll speak to my man and see what I can get the grouppo for.

Spag-face, if you can wait until after the summer, I should be able to sell you full campy chorus 2010 groupset for a big discount.

Have you actually looked at the scheme?Saving is higher than 17.5% by a great deal, and evans do sell groupsets.

yes i have.... but i'm obviously not going to offer the full discount available to me, am I.... that would render this whole exercise pointless.

you guys should be on Watchdog or some shit.... would probably bring a little excitement into your lives.

Does anyone know what happens if you quit your job before the end of the cyclescheme loan period? HMV are part of the scheme but i am only working there till september? I don't mind having to pay the remainder of the loan in full if it's the discounted amount.

If you get laid off before the loan period is over, you will owe your work the full sum of the bicycle. AT RETAIL VALUE, probably.

Just go to cyclesurgery - they price match so you can get it for the same price as ribble/wiggle/chainreaction etc.

DISCLAIMER: NOT ON CYCLESCHEME. Although you could buy a giant CRS 4 for £275 and then use the remaining £725 to buy a gruppo, and get (up to) 48% off all of it over a 12 month period using cyclescheme.

The bike is the property of HMV until you make the final nominal repayment at the end of 12 months. Therefore, if you leave or get fired, you'd probably have to lose the bike or pay the full amount. Whether you pay back the discounted amount or the full amount is probably at the discretion of your employer.

Another interesting fact: say you get £1500 worth of bike, using £1000 of cyclescheme and £500 cash. If you get fired, you lose the bike AND that £500.

thats bullshit.

i bought a bike on the cycle scheme at my old job last year, and left the company 5 months before the payments were finished.... they just deducted the remaining (discounted) amount from my final paychecque.

If you leave a job before the ride-to-work bike is paid off, the amount that you haven't paid off is deducted from your final salary payment, the kicker being that whilst normal payments are deducted form your gross wage and so save a large pile on tax and NI, a final salary deduction is taken from your net wage, after tax and NI, which is a bit like a kick in the balls, if your balls are directly linked to your bank account.
