| | that Brooklyn is gonna go full circle - so anti, that it creates it's own new genre of porn. Maybe like that indian guy with two dicks... on that note, Possibly NSFW: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1315211.html |

| | I'm finding this all highly amusing as i couldn't care less whether anyone likes this bike like i do. But...i love a good debate, so i'd love to hear from those of you who dislike the bike what you consider to be wrong with it. If it's purely appearance then fine, that's personal choice. There isn't a part on this bike that hasn't been chosen or made for a very good reason...and they've all been made to work perfectly together too. So bring it on :) |

I might question why you didn't just build a normal audax bike with panniers though, but I suspect you were more interested in building it, than the actual practicality of it. oh, and the bottles and tri bars are stupid. IMO.

I didn't want to use racks and panniers either...the centrally mounted frame bag will have the heavier items in which keeps the weight more balanced than front or rear panniers. The bottles are great for me...less weight than a front pannier...perfectly positioned to just reach down and pull them out...only a few inches forward of where a downtube mounted shifter sits. Tri bars also make perfect sense for distance riding and i'm sure you don't need me to explain why? Owt else? :) *oh, and Brown is the new black dahling*

| | for fucks sake i was only jesting. For the record i don't dislike your bike... in fact i think it's fucking magic for all different reasons, including its looks. however, by the unwritten rules of this thread it's a prime candidate... it's a frankenbeast and proud of it. jeez. |

It's kind of difficult to mount bottles behind the saddle when it's gonna have a saddle bag mounted there. The forks have had proper bottle mounts brazed on, so they're no weaker than a downtube with bottle mounts. You've answered your own questions on tri bars...they're not just for going fast in races...why do you think practically every bike in the RAAM uses them? They offer a position to rest on out of the wind....and when set up higher as on my bike they're far less uncomfortable. As for Brown and gold...i love the two colours together...plain and simple. Owt else? :)

Frame bag...'check' Not wanting to carry anything on my back...'check' Can you think of a better solution than mounting them on the fork legs? How many ride fixed is irrelevant. I'm not using the tri bars for flat out speed...it's to help over the whole distance to help rest my upper body and back....which they do if set high enough. Yes...i used to run tri bars years ago...believe it or not i'm not new to cycling...i didn't just join the 'fixie' craze. :)

How many times...the 'aero' bars are to help cheat wind and provide an alternative hand position that supports the upper body over longer distances..they're set high because as i said several times...they're not just for racing. And AGAIN....i'm fitting a saddle bag!!!...so no saddle mounted bottles!!! Sighhh. :)

As for wind resistance...i'm not going for the hour record here, i'm riding 240 miles fixed....the aero bars are for comfort first and foremost, but certainly help in the wind too...i'll be no slower with bottles on the forks than i would with panniers....and i see people touring with full panniers and tri bars all the time...for the same reasons as me.

| | Scott could you mount the bottles on the underside of the tri bars? In addition maybe? Campag aero bottles would look great (but fall out at the first bump) Its great seeing such nice kit on the anti porn thread rather than the usual hipster/aerospok tosh. Is there a 'utilitarian' or 'my bikes built for a reason' thread, I just can't be arsed to UTFS right now... |
