May not please you, but it pleases me.

It means that those monitoring Twitter for updates, especially of Classifieds stuff can now be pinged the instant a new thread is created using whatever client that they please.

So it becomes somewhat trivial for someone to obtain a live feed of "For Sale" adverts... which is pretty useful.

Oh, and it also ensures that new threads are almost instantly indexed by Google and Bing.

I've tested and proven that updates to Twitter are one of the main triggers to getting search engines to index a page, I assume both search engines are drinking from the firehose.

I'm reckoning it's now under 90 seconds for a thread to be indexed and available as a search result in Google.

We also now have live updates going over to friendfeed for pretty much the same reasons: Instant alerts via whatever tool you want to use, search engine benefits for the site.

March 18th 2011, www.lfgss.com (a trading name of Cyberdyne Sytems) gains sentience and destroys us all.

We send The Pistanator back in time to try and destroy VB...

An interesting one velocio, you finding them indexing the original post or the tweet linking to the post?

Google follows 301 redirects (of bit.ly) so it's the end page that gets indexed.

Not that Google is the only thing to follow the link. My stats show around 20 real people follow each link on average. So there's actual real user benefit way in excess of the SEO benefit.

Heh, good job none of my posts qualify, as they tend to have more than 140 characters. Hang on ... *counts*

It's new threads only.

Thread prefixes = 12 chars.
bit.ly URL = 16 chars.
Thread title = 85 chars.

Easy within the 140 limit.

It appears to be the fault of bit.ly, or at least... the connectivity between the lfgss servers and bit.ly.

We need to bit.ly to shorten the URLs, but in doing so we're prone to losing the URLs whenever connectivity is temporarily lost between the two.

Does the twitter feed give new threads in places that aren't public like the two polo subsections?

I'd assume not, is there a way to get them?

(subscribe to Lfgss.com/forum48.html or something?)

The twitter feed only tweets stuff that is accessible to people not logged in.

As twitter is public, we only tweet the public stuff.
