EHBPC2010 Geneva Qualifiers 11.04.2010

So, here's the info from GVA:

Quote:
Here is the final ratio for every city interested in EHBPC 2010.
We have received 93 pre-subsriptions from 30 cities for "olny" 48 slots.
So..
There is enough space for 48 teams.
The names of selected teams need to be know by first may 2010.

1) Each of the thirty cities that pre-registered gets one team
2) Each city that requested 3 or more spots gets 2 spots.
3) Each city that registered 5 or more spots gets 3 spots.
4) The biggest polo community (and organizers of EHBPC 2009) gets 4 spots.

List:
City: number of teams allowed to come to Ehbpc 2010

London:4

Genève:3
Paris:3
Hollande:3
München:3

Karlsruhe:2
Frankfurt:2
Berlin:2
Catania:2
Barcelona:2
Manchester :2
Rouen:2

Wien: 1
Bern:1
Lausanne:1
Basel:1
Copenhagen:1
Hamburg:1
Leipzig:1
Grenoble:1
Toulouse:1
Lyon:1
Cambridge :1
Birmingham:1
Oxford:1
Milan:1
Rome :1
Vicenza:1
Fano:1
Budapest:1

The names of selected teams need to be know by first may 2010
Teams that will enter the qualifying tournament are:

1. Rotten Apples (Em, Gabes, Rik)
2. Cosmic (Mat, Todd, Tom)
3. BAD polo (Aidan, Brendan, Dave)
4. Los Coños (Ali, Jo, Sarah)
5. ELKs (Ali, Jon, Ray)
6. Sparkle Motion (James, BDW, TBC)
7. ZU (Brian, Hassan, Mike, Yorgo)
8. The Fifth International (Andy, Iain, Matt)
9. La Schmoove (Dave, James, John)
10. Spinal Tapout (Aram, Ed, Prav)
11. Fiasco (Adrienne, Tony, Josh)
12. Three Beards (Bill, Mark, Rupert)
13. Massive Cogs (Cameron, Emmet, Jon/TBC)

We have to confirm the 4 teams before May 1st, So I'm thinking of the following weekends to do the qualifying tournament.

Date to be confirmed

We will choose by means of a poll on LPC soon which day we will play. If a team cannot attend the qualifiers, they are automatically out.

Oxford/Cambridge only 1 each? I'm sure they have at least 2 competitive teams?

But hey, no point stressing, decision has been made and i'm sure it wasn't an easy one.

4) The biggest polo community (and organizers of EHBPC 2009) gets 4 spots.
so, they only registered 2 teams. so they get 1 slot.

Yeah, good questions! Gabes, is it your suggestion to do a qualifying tournament or was this decided somewhere?

And if someone can't make it they're automatically out!? We have a little more time this year, we should try to find a fairer way if we can.

mini tournament is fair, if every team can attend. it really isnt the best way, but it gets the votes.

We could try a round robin qualification over two weeks. Every team plays every team. Vote on three dates. Have those as designated days to play quali games. Sort the rest out within the 14-day time period.

i just think it will take too much time and cause too many problems to do a single tournament.

it makes more sense to do it chukkas way imo.

I have an idea.

All teams meet at downham in wrestling gear. Then have a "team royal rumble". No bikes, no mallets, just wrestling. Last 4 teams left go to the euro's.

I'll ref.

+1

Seems fairer to spread it. If a player can't make the one qualifying date, the team can still compete for a place.

I can't see a round robin working too well especially not in the space of a week or two. But a vote is hte best way of deciding the format.
