Change tyres?

So after my wheels slipping out under me and taking a fall recently, i am thinking about making adjustments to what tyres i use over winter. currently using 700x23 rubino pros and paranoid gravity will have it ways again i'm thinking of getting a/some winter tyre(s).

I've 'UTFS' and been thinking about either the maxxis refuse (23 or 25) or the vittoria randonneur on the front.

So what i'm asking is, will it make that much a difference to my rubino pro at the moment, in terms of grippyness or shall i just ride with caution on my rubino pros?

thanks

Where can i buy a vittoria randonneur tommorow? Ive just shredded a tyre on a broken bottle and ive got to work on the bike all day tommorow. The roads are properly greasy which is why i need some tread.

PLEASE HELP!

For grip you have the choice of going with a more expensive tyre with better compound like Conti 4 seasons/GP4000s, vittoria open pave etc. I think a refuse is about as grippy as a rubino pro but ive not tried one so cannot be sure.

Or if your going for another cheaper tyre like a raddoneur but getting a fatter size. 28c+ With these cheaper tyres youll just be relying on cut tread to shed water and increased surface area to give you more grip. But they will be heavier and have more drag.

Expensive folding all weather tyres have high TPI meaning they can deform around the bumpy road surface increasing contact area + have stickier grippier compound both together creating much more grip without being bulky.

Most Birmingham shops dont tend to do Vittoria's.

But you can find schwalbe's or Conti's in both independent & chain stores.

I think Decathlon (next to Canada Water station) stock Vittoria Randonneurs. I could be mistaken though.

Maxxis are good up front (23c), had one minor slip (on petrol) and one puncture after 5 months. Good for the money. Rubino pros are slack.

Randonneurs say they are 28 but they're like 25-26. Ok, have one on the back of my polo bike.

Randonneurs in 25 and 23s should be out soon. probably wait for the 25s.
