More 'Cross dates

In case anyone else is interested here are details of some more 'cross races happening early next year:

Jan 3rd: Herne Hill
Jan 31st: Stanmer Park, Brighton
Feb 7th: Herne Hill

These are all part of the London Cross league, details here

I'm assuming by Juniors they mean GO Race. If so you don't need a license to race and mountain bikes are fine.

Juniors and senior/vets/women are all billed to start at 1pm, entry 7 quid.

I'd like to do them all, but broken toe and now lots of broken bike bits means this may not be the case so it may just be brighton.

There's a London League race at HH tomorrow and the VCL madison cross at HH on New Year's Day too.

I hope to ride the event on the 7th of Feb.

However, I'm not sure London X League races are Go Race. The juniors race with the seniors/vets/women and you need a licence to enter.

Hi Andy,

Yes I did worry about the term Junior instead of Go so I guess it is license time for me.

Hopefully see you on the 7th.

Do you need a license for cross? I have not needed one for our league in the west country

Yeah juniors is 16-18 year old category. Usually, the only time you don't need a racing license for a cross race is if it is billed as "go-race" (or "go cross" sometimes). I guess your entire league is run as go race edric?

The VCL madison New Years Day Cross is go race - so no need for a racing license. The one on the 3rd isn't, so you do need a license.

I'm going to race tomorrow at HH *SHOCK*!

Wrap up warm.

Today was going to be my last race of the season but I was overtaken by events. Makes a change from being overtaken by Matt Seaton.

In this photo, your number, which was probably 43, looks like 13.

You do not need a license to race cross, you only have to be a BC member. Only Premier events require a race license, Non BC members can compete upon payment of a day license fee (actually called "event surcharge") of £3.00

new years day

@ Winston Thanks for clarifying license issues.
That's good to know!

Only had a quick bit of searching time and may make some calls tomorrow but does anyone know much about the new years day race?

This is on VCL website:

new years day cyclocross and jumble sale

youth racing [this is a normal straight forward race ]

under 10/12 12.30pm Free to enter
under 14/16 1.00pm entry fee £2.00

main race madison 1.45pm seniors £6.00
juniors £3.00

Cycle jumble 10.00am entry free

Quite how I'll manage a hangover and lack of sleep with racing and then getting to work by 3pm I'm not sure, but I like a challenge.

Yep.
It's a madison cross (ie: for pairs, get a partner or find one on the day)
everything else you've just read it! ^^

Actually, I think those times might be wrong - senior race might be at 1. Just waiting on confirmation.

I'm not even going to be there....

I'm not disputing this, but most race organisers don't seem to know this rule. I've had to produce my licence at every London X League race I've ridden this year, which has then been retained until after the race.

New Years Day

From VCL website:

"...People always think cyclists are no fun for being the first to leave a party. For the last few years VCL have been giving the perfect excuse - their New Years Day madison Cyclo Cross. Teams of two take it in turns racing round the velodrome’s cyclo cross course, relaying each other every lap. The event is run as a Go Race, so anyone can race - no need for racing licenses. Its a fun event, and a perfect introduction to Cyclo Cross. If you don’t have a partner don’t worry, just turn up on the day and find someone to race with.
A jumble sale will run from 10am. As a one off Herne Hill Velodrome will be selling off a container full of their equipment. There will be steel track frames, handlebars, track cranksets, pedals and tonnes more. All proceeds will go towards new hire bikes to be used next season, so grab yourself some bargains!I
Racing starts after lunch, so you can still have a lie in.
Under 10/12 12.30pm Free to enter
Under 14/16 1.00pm entry fee £2.00
Main race madison 1.45pm
seniors £6.00
juniors £3.00
Cycle jumble 10.00am entry free
Guaranteed more fun than a hangover!..."

I'm out from racing, but will come down for the jumble sale and might try to catch the begining of the main race.

I have no doubt, but your license is also your membership card? BC members without a race license still have the card.
