Polo seeds

just a test to see if a poll would work - don't think it would.

does this mean we just basicly vote on who we think should play??

my thoughts are that it's unfair for me, fin and chris to just keep representing birmingham at tournaments. if we all anoymously vote for who we think is best - ie seed the players who have declared interest in geneva, we'll have a ranking which we can use to choose who goes.

for example, if seed 1 doesn't want to go, or can't, seed two gets the next option, and so on until we have 3 players. also, this will help us to make 'a' and 'b' teams for smaller/national tournaments when we can probably send two teams but it might be a shame to split the small talent pool between two teams...

in order to allow people to progress, we can hold votes before the bigger tournaments, or not, if people want to stay in the teams they're alread in.

i can't think of any better way of organising it. we potentially have 7 people who want to play in the euros, but we can only really send one team...

thats seems fair to me. though who gets to vote? the 7 interested players or everyone on the board?

the seven interested players - other people don't really know about who is better week in/week out. also, the vote won't affect them.

don't know how to do the vote though - i think it should be anonymous, but i can't figure out how to do a poll that would be anonymous and mean we can't vote for ourselves.

i think just a simple name in a hat would work.
we all meet at the pub write a name down put in in a hat so no one else sees what who we have chosen then tally em up.
or get a non player to tally em?

could work i dunno really 7 players doesnt seem like many for a vote tho.

yeah - i'm totally in favour of the names in a hat approach, but it depends on getting all seven people in the same place at the same time. which could be difficult. i think our best bet is to do it at polo one night/day.

also 7 x 6 votes each = 42, which should be plenty to get a clear idea of where everyone is in the scheme of things...

6 votes? i take it that would be on a ranking system and assign points the each rank?

could we each just pick our individual top 3 players then do it on a points system, 1 point for a selection, then go on the 3 players with most points.

we could do it once a month say eg at the end of every month leading up to the comp(s) so people can see where they are and improve if they wish to?

if everyone from the 7 is willing to trust one of us then we can just send our top 3 via PMs on this to them, collate the results, then post them on here or message those involved back if anyone doesn't want the world to know.

what do people think?

i was going to suggest us each making individual lists of all the players interested - the more votes, the more balanced. also, if we just do top three we might not learn too much...

good point, i didnt think of that, otherwise we could end up with players having no votes at all.

what about voting by pm-ing on here? any thoughts anyone?

private messages would work fine i think. probably send to hyper as the bastion of polo morality. still need to hear back from the aforementioned hyper, new new new dan, and chris.

Sorry have been following the chat, seems like you've got the strategy tied down. Don't mind doing it for the next few months at the last polo date of the month (or PMing Hyper). Should give everyone concerned enough time to get a fair go.

As has been said previously I don't think we should drag it out longer than a March otherwise the team won't get a chance to play together at tournements between now and then.

with the uk champs in april, shall we get this up and running?

i for one am really keen to send two (or even more!) teams to the nationals, and for one team to be the best we can put together as a city.

brum's first tournament victory is long overdue...

I'm up for the voting system as proposed here as I understand it. Also happy with PMs to Fin.

Sorry to take my time replying to this one...
