I'd never heard of fixed-gear until I stumbled across his site.
He must've been an inspiration to thousands upon thousands of cyclists.

What a loss.
My thoughts are with his family.

Freaky thing is prompted by a throwaway comment by someone (I think RPM?) about his likely longevity I downloaded the entire website on Sturday *just in case*.

Together with the Harris Cycles catalogue there's 275MB of info and pics on that site!

It wasn't meant as a throwaway comment as such, I knew he was on his last legs and I think his work needs to be kept in the manner it deserves.

Sorry, throwaway wasn't really the word I was looking for either; I work for hospital that manages hundreds of people with MS who go on for years and I thought speculation about his demise was a bit premature was all.

That has saddened me greatly. May every fixed conversion out there be a testament to the great bearded one.
He guided me through every stage of my first tender conversion and is still the first port of call for technical queries…

I hope they publish his site into a book: The Sheldon Brown Almanac of All Things On Two Wheels.

RIP Cap'n Bike. You, sir, will be a missed genius.

Maybe someone with a bit of gravitas might want to send a message from LFGSS.

It might be some small comfort for his family to know how many people he never knew are sad he's no longer around?

I think that would be a lovely idea. I'm sure that, whilst they might rather not be bombarded by thousands of individuals, a pleasant and honest note on behalf of the hundreds of users here in London, I suspect almost all of whom have variously been aided, if not downright inspired by his encyclopedic knowledge, wisdom, and good humour, might bring a little solace to the family. That way, they might know the scale of his reach and that we are all thinking of him.

Only if one of the moderator types fancy it, of course…
