2009-11-27 - Rider Down, Roundabout St Stephens Rd, Old Ford Rd

2pm, woman on light blue puegeot mixte, knocked off by young man in metalic red puegeot car, he just pulled straight on to the roundabout looking to the right into the cyclist, if she had not shouted as he pulled forward, he would have driven over her as well as knocking her off, as soon as she stood up he screeched away, uncertain as to 1st letter of Reg plate:
(Y?)202SLN.
If anyone sees him would like 1st letter and model of car, description of driver.

Both cyclist and cycle are O.K.

If it's reported to the Police, they will be able to do a search on a partial plate and hopefully track down the offending vehicle.

another illegal driver.

it seems the community are full of them and their danger.

they can't afford to drive legally so they just do it illegally. a massive black market / taboo subject.

glad to hear the cyclist is ok.

i hope you do / the cyclist does report it to the police.

that area has been traffic calmed with speed bumps. believe it or not it used to be worse than it is now.

That roundabout is surprisingly hazardous and LB Tower Hamlets are doing nothing about it beyond installing that ridiculous bit of green paint on the northern side, which if anything has made it more hazardous (and unsightly).

It's bloody ridiculous that there is a roundabout there. It should just be a normal junction with Old Ford Rd having the priority. There is not enough traffic or speed there to warrant anything more complex and hazardous.

Completely agree. Tell LB TH, too. Get as many people as you can to tell them that.

It's because there is a bus route there I think, and as everybody knows all common sense and proper road layouts must go out of the window so that buses may have priority.

No, the existence of this roundabout or most others doesn't have anything to do with bus operation. Mini-roundabouts are sometimes used to get around inadequate turning radii, but that problem exists as much for rigid refuse vehicles as for buses. This roundabout, like most others, was initially put in to increase motor traffic capacity of the junction. The junction would work absolutely fine with buses as a tightened-up four-way priority junction.
