Bit late for today, but sounds like this might be up your street. Nice and warm, and surely the only way anyone can stay at 100rpm / 17mph average in SE London!

We had a good forum turn out tonight, give it a go next week.

By the way, I think I might brave the cold myself after xmas. I'm planning some hill sprints round Forrest Hill - think I need to work on my power a little, will keep you posted!

hey jc - did you post a link here?

yes. who was i kidding, haha....was freezing......managed 16.something average and rubbish average rpm. something like 79 or 80....max of 120, woo love going down that hill from honor oak!
blahhhhhh.

thanks tom for joining me though!
JC - im guessing 'nice and warm' means you guys are doing some indoor training?
would definitely be up for it at some point!

Yeah sorry I meant to post this - http://www.londonfgss.com/thread33155.html

16mph ave is about as good as you can realistically do on open roads in Greater London. Especially if you're doing some hills. TBH i don't think you can really do much productive training like that. Its either indoors, or find some nice open roads and lay the hammer down!

ah thanks ill check it out. ill drag you to polo after, yeah? ;0

nice, cheers for the info.

yeah it gets pretty frustrating spinning and getting absolutely nowhere. the numb toes thing doesn't help either. maybe ill stick to going up and down pepys and jerningham before uni. hills = death to me.

If you don't mind A-roads, I'd head along to Lewisham and then A21, Catford -> Bromley. Then, if you want to bump up the miles a bit, keep on going to Orpington and beyond, out to Polhill via Knockholt/A224... (and then you'll be pretty much at the M25, so you get to turn around on a quiet little roundabout and do it all backwards!).
It's partly the Dulwich Paragon winter chaingang route, has some quite good stretches to work on spinning and speed, not too many traffic lights all things considered, and the odd up and down (good climb back from Polhill to Badgers Mount, and a nice quick one up into Bromley). But it can be quite busy, is grim with a headwind unless you have some mug to draft behind, and the little stretch between Green Street Green and the Knockholt turn-off becomes a hairy bit of dual carriageway.

Something like http://bit.ly/5NjVpB
Innit.
