Flights with ryanair, if you book now, are £10 return per person, plus £80 return for the bike.

ryanair from london stansted is the cheapest.

@buffalo
train is around 100 euro (for both directions) if you get your ticket early.

What are the other travel options? i presume stuttgart must have pretty good transport links?

Just seeing if there's a way of getting there without having to get to to London to catch the flight.... Regional airports fail...

another possibility (but more expensive i think) is:
eurostar to paris (2 hours) then TGV to karlsruhe (3 hours)

Just checked train tickets. 125 pounds return (on the dot! although that's with today's exchange rate). Just under 5 hours on the train.

This was using SNCF and EuroStar. It may be cheaper if you use bahn to book a portion of it... But anyway, I think that's reasonable and probably about the same as ryanair once you account for train/bus to Stansted.

so you'd take eurostar to paris, and then change to SNCF there?

Cheapest option at the mo, once you have paid to go to stansted and back.

We did Paris to Strasbourg, and Strasbourg to Baden-Baden in 2003 because Paris to Baden-Baden was more money. And we decided to spend a day in Strasbourg. It'd be nice to only have to transfer once with bikes though.

hey horatio.
i write it in here so everyone can read it. :)
I'll go to the atp festival next week and my ticket to london was 99€ return.

go to www.bahn.de - angebotsberatung - Reisen quer durch Europa - internationale Fernverkehrsangebote - Spezialangebote Europa - london spezial and then check the trains.
I'm not sure if this deal is only for german customers, because when you switch to english language there is no "london spezial"?!

another possibility is to use the eurostar (london) to bruessel. and then a ice to karlsruhe.
check the button "sparangebote".
i found some connection for 39 € (one way bruessel to karlsruhe), so if you can find cheap trains from london to bruessel maybe this is cheaper.
please note that you need a bike bag for the ice. Otherwise you will get kicked out!

In most cases the train is a good alternative. if you count in the check-in time, flight time, riding to the airport,...it's the nearly the same as riding 6 hours in the train.
and of course it's ecofriendly and romantic. :)
hope this helps?

can't wait to meet you guys again.
