| | Buying Brakes. Which Drop? Simple question. I am getting some new callipers for the bike to replace the old Weinmann type 500's I have measured from the centre nut to the middle of the rim ( braking surface) and it's 50mm. So Do I get 49mm drop brakes or the 57's? I know most have +/- 10mm adjustment but is the stated size at the middle point? Sorry if these are dumb q's but I hat ordering the wrong parts! Cheers. EDIT: Bike is an old Peugeot Carbolite with 700c wheels. Nothing unusual Last edited by lowpug; 14th November 2009 at 15:24. Reason: include bike details |

| | I think the drop number is the maximum rather than middle. For example http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Mi...et/5360040668/ are 57 drop brakes but you can see the range is 41-57, whereas a 49 might have a range of 41-49. So as long as you can see the range and 50 is in there you can order away. |

| | This ad on SF Craiglist is Weimann 500s which have 43-57mm reach. Velobase lists them as having standard reach. Not sure if there were 2 versions... |
