FH Grubb 1950's era bike

The frame is in original condition, it shows use but has no visible rust. It has the SE20 man on a bike metal plaque at the front.

The frame is original and I believe the wheels (27" chrome), break calipers and seat are original as most likely is the deraillier and gear lever and handlebars.

Not sure about other parts.

It is rideable, but the rear brake cable is not attached (I have it but the end has frayed and I can't get it back through the frame guides).

It would suit conversion to fixed wheel (fixtie) for a purist who wishes to own a piece of history. It has horizontal rear drop outs.

The frame is 23 inches from base of seat post to centre of crank.

I have a small rack for it as well, but this is not an old item and it is not fitted.

Hi there, can we have some pictures please?

I'm not interested in buying, but I also have a grubb, mine once had gears and I am interested to see how i would have looked...

Thanks,

A.

Price is £120, but this is based on a price I saw a Grubb frame go for (£80), I am not sure of the true value?

As I said I saw just a frame go for £80.
This comes with what I believe are the original wheels in very good condition and other bits as mentioned before.
However, I think you might be a bit late?

I think tree trunks is a dealer (look at the first entry) so he might be looking for a mark-up.

Sorry, Tree Trunks just thought the SJS cycles advert next to your entry was something to do with you.

Ok, my grub is dated to 1957 and has the frame number 14400. What is yours? The gears on mine were of the hanger type, rather than slot into the dropout, although someone (not me) filed off the hanger :(

Mine is plain guage 531 with Nervex lugs type type 86BIS (very similar, if not the same) as yours. However, your forks have more rake and it looks like your headtube is steeper than mine... It looks like your head angle is different to your seat tube... it would be 71/73. This points to the model being a Silver Star, only, the Silver Star was never offered in Blue... The silver star was also NOT 531, it was Accles and Pollock tubing.

Grubbs were only made with that headbadge between 1952 and 1963. I paid £100 for mine, frame only. However, it was in perfect nick (no paint though...) with no dents or corrosion and 531. I also have forged dropouts rather than stamped ones. I would tentatively suggest that your frame is in fact early 60's rather than late 50's. Not that it makes much difference...

If you can tell me your frame number, I might be able to give a more accurate date...

Don't mind tree trunks, he's just a troll. It is a handsome old frame. You said in another thread that you inherited it - seems a shame to sell it in that case, unless it doesn't fit you.

£120 is a nice price for a fully working bike, that of course you included the dynamo, light, rack etc.

but yes it'd be a shame to sell it, would make a nice little project, since the bike seemed to be in good condition, it won't take much to make it run very smoothly and comfortable without spending too much.

I am 6 foot 4 and have another 25" frame bike which is suitable. I agree it would be nice to have fitted me.
The frame has some markings on the under the crank housing. I don't know if my eyes are going bad but I can't make it out - it looks like GVG*222E** or 6V6*222E** the asterisks are characters not clear enough to guess at what they might be.

I think it might need a new saddle as well!
