Chas Roberts Track Frame and Forks

OK this is actually my best bike, but i am selling it now because i am really into older bikes and i could use the money to fund something 40's or 50's, so here we go:

Up for sale is a 1997 Chas Roberts/ Sigma made from Clumbus max tubing. It is built to manchester spec and was sold as 56 seat tube and 57 top tube. The real measurements are more like 55 and 58 (ctc). I bought the frame from the original owner who only used it on the track. I have used it on the road for 3 days and it is an awesome responsive ride (you are welcome to have a go).

The frame will come with a miche bottom bracket and a headset (need to check what it is). It takes a seatpost size 27.2. The reason why it says sigma on the frame is because it was recently resprayed over there (http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/app/web/homepage.aspx) and they did not have roberts decals so they just put their sigma nes on. before it was yellow and red.

The fitting was done at sigma but the frame and forks were built by chas roberts, hence the name sigma-roberts.Those of you who are into columbus tubing will probably spot that the top and downtube are round rather than ovalized towards the ends (like on normal max tubing). The answer to this is that roberts usually use a) a blend of the best tubes and b)have their own made by columbus or reynolds. In this case i think the downtube is specifically made for roberts, since it is of rather large diameter. You can see a mountainbike frame made from the same tubing here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...torefresh=true

Max was the top tubing of the period, here is a tubing chart for you to check out: http://equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm

The clearance on the front is not as tight as on some trackbikes but at least you don't have toe overlap. There are no dings in the frame but there a a couple of chips in the paintjob. The frame is undrilled for brakes and I think thats the way it should stay. I am asking £400. REDUCED TO £375. Pick up in hackney or post. I know this is more expensive than some of the track frames offered here but please consider that a new roberts frame will set you back at least £920 (and that buys you the basic tubing and not the top one).

forgot to say, I am happy to source the roberts decals if you want them.

dibs and pm please

for sale is on frame and forks (including bb and headset), font tyre in the pic is 18mm, rear is 23mm

If it's manchester spec, the bb will be quite high, so I'm guessing this will have a stand over height more like a 58x58 frame. It's lovely and I'd snap it up if i was in need of a track bike. Good luck with the sale :)

@ aesm. Yep bb is pretty high, but standover is not at 58cm. I would guess its at about 56-57 (i do have a non manchester spec 58cm track bike and the standover there is slightly higer).

If anybody is interested i can post additional measurements.

cheers

ok i cheched, the headset is a primax E with needle roller bearings. It runs smooth.

Also if you prefer the complete bike you can have that as well with the following components:

- Velo Plush saddle (not the one pictured) or scuffed flite titanium.
- Laprade seatpost very light but also very much scratched (its not the one pictured) or
alternatively a fuji track post in black if u prefer that.
- Miche primato track crankset
- wheels are miche primato track hubs on mavic rims. Rear is clincher mavic reflex SUB control UB, front is
unkown mavic for tubs.
-Tires are: front vittoria atlanta gold tub 18mm, Rear choice of bontrager 23c or votoria race light
18mm (track tire)
- Stem is a 3TTT pro light and handlebars are 3TTT super competitizione.
- there is a range of gears availiable you can choose from.
- pedal wise you can have a pair of TVT pedals (not pictured) or Dura Ace ones for £15 on top. (if you prefer the shitty spd pedals in the pic thats cool as well).

its £600 for the whole bike
