| | Going back to power management my iPhone comes off the charger at approx 07.15 am, then will have exhausted it's charge by approx 16.00 and will need to go back onto charge until 17.00 or it will be dead before I get home. So with Wi-Fi and so forth in use (but no GPS) it has a run time of around 10 hours before it turns itself off and will not turn on again until recharged. |

| | lileth, I was wondering if Google Maps could be configured to give a pedometer reading, and I'm sure it could. As long as the walker had phone reception, then the Google Maps (if on his device) should perform the function well. It would give distance, but not steps. The steps could be worked out mathematically, by taking an average of steps, over uneven ground (with some rises and descents) and use that average for the journey. As long as the ups and downs were actually representative of the total journey. If not, then just an average of 10 minutes walking should do it. |

| | So my 50 hours of standby was based on wifi, gps and background data off. I didn't realise you could turn 3G off, but I have just done that, so will see how long the battery lasts this time. Oh, the phone is only 1 month old, so battery life is only going to get worse :( |

| | battery life is a problem for every modern 3G smartphone, especially the touchscreen ones. firmware can definitely affect battery life (and other performance issues), and often if you update to the latest version you'll wring a bit more life out of the things (manufacturers often rush handsets to market and don't have time to properly bug-fix/optimise them, so they need a post-launch patch-up). the palm pre (the euro version from O2) is the worst one I have seen recently. it was lucky to get through 6-7 hours of use, in my experience. you can almost watch the battery draining. |

I use a mac and found a great app that lets you sync with iTunes / iPhoto etc automatically. Am working away from home but will post it when I get back.

http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/1...electric-shoc/ My modded Samsung now lasts a few days of normal (probably light for most people) use. I just make sure I have a charger at home and the office.

Read here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/ Why are you using bluetooth to copy music anyway? USB = faster.

When you plug it in you need to mount it. There's also a setting in the menus somewhere about "USB mass storage only" or some bollocks that might need changing.

| | This is the syncing application - you install it to your mac/pc. I set it to automatically sync selected iTunes playlists to my G1 and it handles it well. There's a windows version too. http://www.salling.com/MediaSync/Mac/ |

| | Weird. Only other thing I can think of is what Hippy referred to but I thought this option had been replaced by newer versions of Android - still, try it (the location/naming may be slightly different on your phone): Go into settings from main menu & select phone settings. In there is there an option to either Use USB Mass Storage / access USB/PC Connection settings? If so select it. I'd also turn off bluetooth when you try to re- connect. If that doesn't work sorry I can help any further. |

| | Right.. you have a phone? You have a computer? Are they both on? You have USB cable connecting the two devices? What happens? Are you using the phone's storage or did you buy an SD card for it? If you bought a memory card for it did you format this card in the phone? Last edited by hippy; 11th November 2009 at 14:45. |

| | Bad news I think Murtle. From the Samsung mobile site: http://www.samsungmobile.co.uk/support/faq.do?faqNo=403 "I regret to advise that Samsung do not support macintosh with our mobile phones. No software exists to provide usb connectivity with a Macintosh. You may be able to transfer filesto and from the phone using Bluetooth but again we do not provide software to facilitate this." Completely nuts. You could try this: http://macintoshhowto.com/phone/get-...ile-phone.html Or get a micro sd card and card reader & just install that way. Or take your phone back.... |

| | Samsung seem to have made a bit of a pig's ear over android with the galaxy: http://androidforums.com/samsung-i75...e-updates.html Basically it appears they have also locked it from over the air updates, instead relying on owners using that PC Suite software to do manual updates. I don't know how bothered you are 31t®um but as you are a Mac user it would seem you have no way to update your phone's firmware as they also don't offer mac support!! |
