One neat trick that Ice Cream Sandwich offered was facial recognition software that was used to unlock the screen. It seems a photo can fool it. D'oh!

can anyone recommend a good ebook reader for android tablet - i'd like to be able to highlight text - bookmark - add sticky notes etc of possible

Archos 101 tablet is now running 2.3 another iteration of 2.2 thanks to a stock FW update. Seems a bit speedier through the homescreens, but still generally a bit slow. Might have a look into a new launcher to speed things up more.

I think lardboy might be confused. The latest firmware update version is 2.3.soemthing but that bears no relation to the version of Android it runs. They could've introduced 2.3 but last time I checked they had not.

New firmware is Archos 2.4.80 and runs 2.2.1. Sleepy eyes.

Im using the Kindle app on my Archos and HTC. You can highlight, add notes, search etc...

Amazon doesnt offer that many free ebooks, but... Isohunt etc do.

Update, her Desire S has completely bricked itself. Back to o2 in the morning.

Alby's Desire S did that too. Recovery mode did fuck all. HTC are fixing it, but it means being without your phone for ~3 weeks.

There are a fair few posts on forums about Desire S motherboards frying themselves and returns not being a surprise to carriers.

Offering 18-24 month contracts and one year warranties are a recipe for disaster I think.

If you can prove it not fit for purpose they should give you an upgrade, no?

Again, isn't the EU warranty thing 2 years so it doesn't matter what the retailer/company says, EU law says 2 year warranty.

There's only one guy here with a Desire S. Not heard him complain of any issues yet but I'll ask.

Anyway- anyone know what the Android Strava application outputs as- .tcx?

Iv'e only ever hit "upload", but need to find out if I can get it to save the files on the SD card for later tinkering (need to combine it with other data before uploading to Strava).

We experienced this t'other day in a vodafone shop with a non-working HTC.

Insurance is £10 a month, which we established gets you a £10 Nokia. The guy then informed us we should've got an iPhone as their customer service 'works'. Then told us we should've phoned customer services on our non-working phone to get it repaired. He then took said non-working phone and informed us they'd phone us when it's ready. On said non-working phone. The guy then infomred us they may not repair it if it's been dropped, as he put in a non padded envelope, and chucked it in a drawer.

Pretty much exactly what I got. The reason iPhone customer service works is because Voda tell you to go to the Apple store nearest you- i.e. they wash their hands of it entirely.

Anyway- Strava, file type, what is?

adoubletap might have more luck. It seems to depend on the age of the product and how far you are willing to take it.

I've decided that I'm never going to use my Archos 101. The bonus 16gb convinced me other wise but it's been untouched the last week so I'm taking it back. Anyone want this 16gb at face value of the 8gb £129 offer (don't know if that's still on or if they have any left)? I'll include a pair of Exim anti reflective screen protectors which I never got round to fitting.

Good idea, done that and can see no Strava files anywhere.

Arse.

What I want to do is to use the SRM to log heart rate, cadence, wheel speed, power, time and distance.

Then use something like Topofusion to combine that info with a .tcx that has GPS position and time, into one complete .tcx file that can then be uploaded to Strava.

I could use the Garmin 705 output for this, but it seems like overkill- if I could get my phone to log GPS and output as a .tcx then that would be fine.

What I could not find was any files saved by the Strava application on my phone, so I suspect that it either uploads them at the end of the ride, or bins the info.

I'll have a play around with it.

^ Once you have uploaded the ride it deletes it from the phone. If you have not uploaded it you can 'long press' on a ride and you get an Export option

Aha- thanks for that, I presume it exports as a TCX? Do you want that PowerTap wheel after me btw?
