| | T-Mobile e-mailed me, in reply to my query, and inform that the X10 will be available by the end of February, or early March. Also, they'll be selling the LG Touch Max - an Android 1.5 phone very soon. Quote:

| | I don't mind the buttons on the Samsung.. it's useful when your hands are damp and you don't want to smear the screen (phoar!) or you're drunk and can't see/operate it properly. If the trackball is like the Blackberry one I'll be happy. I have a 17" laptop for a bigger screen. :) Anyway.. it's just an excuse to give Mal the Galaxy and have a new toy for myself. :) |

| | Carphonewarehouse is scheduling the Motorola Milestone release to February. The same link shows the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, to appear in March. I doubt T-Mobile will be releasing the X10 much before Carphonewarehouse can. GSMarena have done a thorough review of the Milestone. Firefox heading for Android phones in February? |

Though you could be right, and it might just be another Newton, and flop just the same. It seems other manufacturers feel that a market will emerge for this product type. There's the Archos 7, plus 9 others, including a new Viewsonic. For student (university) lectures, business seminars (note taking), and downtime entertainment, it seems to tick a few boxes. That the iPad lacks Flash (Adobe) is more laughable than lamentable. But it means the Android tablets may then tap into the disenfranchised iPad consumerbase. | |

| | Nexus One just got an update and now does multi-touch. Right back at ya Steve. The Nexus One has been revered time and time again, by us and many other mobile blogs, as the most likely contender to unseat the iPhone as the de facto king of the smartphone space. Unfortunately, the N1 hasn’t been able to realize it’s full iPhone-killing potential due to its lack of multi-touch support. That all changes today. Today, the Prince of smartphones comes into its own, giving the King a serious challenge for the smartphone throne. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has announced a new software update for the Nexus One that finally enables multi-touch support in the web browser, photo gallery, and Google Maps apps. With the update, N1 users will be able to zoom in and out of pictures, web pages and Google Maps by pinching the screen. You read that correctly, the Nexus One is officially able to multi-touch itself! The Nexus One update will also make Google Goggles a default app, allowing users to snap pictures of everyday objects and search the web using that image. It will also bring Google Maps up to version 3.4, which synchronizes starred items, offers search suggestions, and a new Night Mode for easy nighttime viewing. Thankfully, Google says the update will fix 3G connectivity issues.Powered by Android OS 2.1, the Nexus One offers Android fans the most advanced Android features on market today – in fact, no other Android phone currently runs Android 2.1 . And, with a feature-set that includes a 1Ghz processor, 3.7-inch capacitive OLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera with flash, 3G, WiFi, and GPS packed into a body no thicker than a pencil, it’s clear that the Nexus One is one of this year’s hottest smartphones. The N1 just needed pinch-to-zoom functionality to give it the chops to take the iPhone 3GS head-on.It’s actually amazing how much of a difference pinch-to-zoom functionality makes on a smartphone with a capacitive touchscreen. I’ve personally felt that the Nexus One was fully capable of hanging with the iPhone without pinch-zooming capabilities. Now that it has multi-touch, though, the N1 has the potential to give Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) reason to sweat.http://www.intomobile.com/2010/02/02...potential.html Last edited by hippy; 3rd February 2010 at 11:38. |

| | http://www.intomobile.com/2010/02/09...-and-more.html Motorola DROID users will soon be able to get their hands on Android 2.1. This, according to Motorola’s Facebook page. Details of the update are still fuzzy at best, but the good ‘ol team over at Engadget have jotted down their thoughts on what may be coming in 2.1 for the DROID: The update is based on Android 2.1. Build currently in the works is 2.1 version 1. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Goggles is pre-installed Browser is now multi-touch enabled News and weather widgets intro’d on the Nexus One will be included No active wallpapers or home screen updates Keep in mind this is all speculation… There’s only one thing for certain here: The DROID update is being tested by the good folks at Verizon (NYSE: VZ), and we’ll see it real soon (provided the testing goes smooth as butter). I’ll keep my ear to the ground for more details as they become available. Note: Canadian ‘DROID’ seekers… Still nothing new on the TELUS Motorola Milestone yet. I still suspect we’ll see it by the end of the month… I’ll be sure to let you know once I hear anything official. |

| | http://www.intomobile.com/2010/02/08...alvik-pro.html Myriad, a company you and I have never heard of, is a member of the OHA (Open Handset Alliance). The OHA was created to bring companies together and have them contribute code that eventually becomes a part of Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s mobile operating system, Android. A critcal part of any smartphone platform is 3rd party developers. Android third party developers write their applications in a specially optimized version of Java known as Dalvik. Myriad tweaked and optimized Dalvik and have claimed to make existing applications run 3x faster, while also improving battery life. They call it Dalvik Turbo and are going to be showing it off next week at Mobile World Congress. When will Davlik Turbo be integrated into Android itself? Will existing devices be upgraded to Dalvik Turbo? How much battery life is gained in real world scenarios by switching to Dalvik Turbo? I’ve emailed Myriad asking them these questions, and if they don’t answer because they’re too busy getting ready for Barcelona, then I’ll be swing by their booth and ask again. |

| | http://www.intomobile.com/2010/02/09...droid-2-1.html We’ve already seen Flash running on the Nexus One, but apparently other devices running anything less than Android 2.1 won’t support it. Call it a hardware bottleneck, but the droid and Nexus One are the only devices out there presently that will run Flash 10.1. Along with Android, Windows Mobile and webOS plug-ins will be available in the first half of this year, likely with BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) not too far behind. If the limitation is strictly software-based, then it won’t be all lost – upcoming devices like the X10, which are launching with Android 1.6, will likely be able to upgrade to 2.1, and potentially support Flash. I’m not seeing where Adobe made the announcement of this limitation to 2.1, but in the same breath, they also forecasted that over half of smartphones will be packing Flash by 2012. Now, who wants to take bets that the iPhone will get it by then? |

| | http://www.intomobile.com/2010/02/10...mid-march.html Good news for the HTC Hero owners. The Taiwan-based handset maker is working on the new ROM for the device that will include the latest (and greatest) version of Android OS (2.1). According to HTC’s Benelux team, the Hero users will be blessed with the update at some point in mid-March, when they’ll be able to say to their Nexus-ownin’ buddies “this is still my Hero.” Or not… whatever… Anyway, in addition to Android 2.1, the update will also include Friend Stream widget that helps users keep up with their buddies on social networks (Facebook and Twitter), as well as improved Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Exchange support. Now I’m guessing that following the updated firmware for the unlocked Hero, carrier-specific ROM versions will be released shortly afterwards… |
