2009-10-18 - LFGSS Cake & Bake Off

Drop your pedal spanners and crank pullers and pick up your wooden spoons, it's time for the first LFGSS cake&bake off. I'm laying down the gauntlet (or oven glove) to all aspiring pastry chefs in a challenge to find the forums best baker.

Date: 18 October 2009
Location: The Coach & Horses SW4 7EX
http://www.coachandhorsesclapham.com/
Rules: All contestants must bring something resembling a cake/pastry/biscuit which has come from their oven (no tesco's finest here thank you).

Catagories:
Best Cake
Best Cookie/Biscuit
Best Tart
Best Decoration

Prizes will be decided by a public vote

Meet at 5pm to begin tasting at 6pm.

Maybe a crown made of fairy cakes and wooden spoons, but there shall be no cheese in this competition. I can't be dealing with any crossing of the sweet/savory divide.

MOC has now entered military Guiness cake preparation mode - this time it's gonna be messy!

Mrs O's carrot cake -which is not only the best carrot cakle that I have ever tasted but also her piece de resistance - uses cream cheese in the frosting. Cheese is entirely appropriate, as a consequence, for cakes.

Ahh I can't keep up with all the posts, basically there are no rules on what you can or can't cook. Just whatever you bake make lots of it and have some fun.

So cheese is in?

Do I have to cook it myself or can I get Mrs O to cook for me.

[NB - tasters would be well advised to go with the Mrs O option]

Hmm I also make a mean carrot cake - but don't want to flood the market so will stick with MOC's guiness cake, however I may throw in a chocolate cake for the hell of it.
Ed we need plenty of warning for the bake off date - G cakes take approximately 2 weeks to prepare

this is a brilliant idea moog, love your work. in like flynn.

given the insanely insane guinness cake seems to be a shoe-in to trump any award, (i am yet to experience it but have witnessed slamm's eyes roll back in his head at the mere mention...) how about some categories to encourage more baking peeps out of the woodwork?

one suggestion, perhaps perhaps...

best baked delight featuring:

- alchohol
- cheese (for the dairy fanatics)
and....

MEAT!

because i really want an excuse to make these:

yes it is bacon and caramel, together at last

Oh for a "tasty tasty murder" sign to put under that banner below the vegans-in-clingfilm (what a great name for a band).

I tried photoshopping it, but it was too small to read.
