I just booked my ticket, tried PIN3 as a code, [natural progression from above codes] and it seems to work - gave me a discount!

oh well.

Assuming you're based in London you'd probably get more dedicated one-to-one time with them at their shop.

It was good when it was at the Excel centre. There were so many ways of getting in for nothing. I always find it an anticlimax and an expensive one.

For those that are paying to get it, try sticking "Wig" in the promo code bit - should take tickets down to a 10...

I went last year and it seems to me like the organisers missed an ideal opportunity to get people excited. It was pretty much a trade show that you had to pay to get into.

Should probably point out that I got free tickets. If I'd have had to pay I'd have been really annoyed.

Just my opinon, like.
I think it's opinon shared by many,
They changed it late this year the exhibitors can now sell at the show which wasn't possible before which could make it more interesting.

Definitely

But if most of the shops have pulled out due to the old rules, what is there going to be on offer? Can't see distros wanting to sell too much as they'll have to undercut their retailers to make it interesting, then they'd be in a horrible catch 22

I really want to like the cycle show and I hope it's good this year...

That's easy. The Distys have a list of their resellers at the show and they point you at them. If they don't they take your details and in an ideal world the reseller calls you the following week/day and gives you a show price *cough*.

yeah, right.

:D

I liked it last year tbh. Used it to get sized properly in manufacturers things (bikefitting, clothes, gloves etc) and could then make informed 'net purchases afterwards :-D

Isn't it fairly normal to get discounted stuff at trade shows/fairs?

I'm genuinely ignorant, just wondering.

Oh, and I think the Cycle Show is going to get more and more interesting as cycling in the UK increases. I've gone every year since it started and there has certainly been a big improvement over time.

It is fairly normal and a good revenue for stores to clear out old stock.

The problem is that if it's only been a recent decision to allow shops to sell, and most shops don't know or haven't booked because of the earlier policy, then only distributors will be in a position to sell stuff. If they then sell below RRP, they're effectively bumming the stores that they set RRP prices for and whom they rely on to keep them in business.

I know I'd be a bit annoyed if I was a shop in that position.

I just saw a Condor/Rapha car with new 2010 bicycles on the roof heading there, look like the Potenza will have the same colourway as the 2009 one, saw one in Teal, think the only difference is the decals.

So, things you should see...

Moulton!

yes, Moulton as they have on their stand a NEW (finished 2.30am last night or something) TSR2 which has a belt drive..
.. also a 953 Super Record Stainless Steel framed toy. The seatpost is uber light.. just try it.

If you're hungry, Torq and others are doing free samples of all of their energy/recovery things. Check Mule bars for the fairtrade organic certified stuff. (rather nice)

Check TFL, do the superhighway simulator - get your speed as high as possible :) but also note it's the current things made a bit wider painted blue..

check what they do at bus stops, and look for the bit where they cut the road narrowing to a wider section without showing what happens to the bike lane. Do tell TFL how happy/not happy you are.
Try out the Velib bikes, not as bad as you'd think - slick gear changes on the one I tried.

Brompton have an engineer building bikes on the stand (real bikes for real customers) - very interesting to watch. 2010 changes nice - the hub dynamo is a 'Son' and bloody nice. they have one that'll work on my Moulton.. loss of 1W @ 30Km/h when the light isn't turned on.

Lots more to see (fixed Airnimal Chameleon, wtf!) - if you get there early, get to the small stands you want to see - they're the ones that won't cope with the crowds. the larger stands have a lot of people.

There tomorrow + Sunday, I'll have the 531 Awesome Tshirt on, and a backpack with some weird dots on it ;) I actually have some meetings. gosh. :)

Anyone know what bike parking is like at Earls Court?

Brompton have sponsored an indoor valet parking type system whereby they attach a label to your bike and one to your arm, and no-one leaves with a bike without having the matching armband.

The capacity of this is a few hundred. And it's at the back (up the road on the left) when viewed from Earls Court tube station.

It's in the building itself... go through the rear entrance, sort your tickets out, then the corridor on the left.
