Probably been seen before, but this ad was on the back of the Country Show flier that was delivered in Lambeth today. I suppose it's something atleast, but the white space at the bottom seems like a missed opportunity to actually explain in a sentence or two why the left side of a lorry is a dangerous place - to a less-aware cyclist it could just seem like a general nag about not getting close to lorries, and doesn't address the left-turn issue at all. The photo is quite poor too, the perspective is odd, so I'm not sure if it's meant to be an example of a dangerous or safe road position...

to his credit though, the posters and billboards of people on bikes( yeah I know what youre gonna say about the bikes etc) all over town are really good news, more of them and all sorts of huge ads for bike shit, visual culture helps to get bike riding accepted as serious transport.

LB Lambeth are doing pioneering work among local authorities at the moment, and while this can probably be improved, it's an excellent start. More LBs need to follow suit.

Cars do instil the worst of human attributes; rage, self-importance, bloated ego, selfishness to name but a few. This is especially true in areas which have a high people-per-square mile ratio. The attitude of car drivers must change I agree, but it will only happen through education and the raising of awareness. The plight of the cyclist needs to be piped into every household. I'd much rather see the TFL cycling budget spent on a comprehensive awareness campaign, than on more useless ill thought out cycle lanes.

My girlfriend just got some cycle tuition from Hackney free of charge, and as she currently works in Lambeth she can get another 2 hours free as well.

The tuition is top notch, before going on it she was absolutely shit-scared of the traffic, made worse by the fact she doesn't drive and therefore doesn't understand it so well. Now she's got so much more confidence, and is always bugging me to get on the bike and go somewhere.

I know, about time. I only bought her a bike about 2 1/2 years ago. Might have to get her a little SS or somant now though, that thing she's got really is a tank.

Serious Transport

Allo

What exactly do you mean when you say "serious transport", surely biking as a whole is there already. but while it shares an infrustructure with our other transport modes it always going to play second (or 15th) fiddle, isnt it?
