Hit by a taxi :(

Hi all,

for most of you - long time no see! but here I am - with few scratches and my lovely old low pro Rossin less :(

yesterday i got hit from the back by a taxi on a xroad of oxford street and dean street (Cheers to guys who stopped to ask if im cool)

Im going to try and follow the whole situation with this bloody driver who shouted to me (after police left) 'NEXT TIME IF YOU WANT TO DIE JUST CALL ME!'

Anyway, my frame is a bit bent and mt rear wheel doesnt really exist anymore.

my question is - have you got any cheap wheel that will be getting me from A to B while i will be saving to rebuild my original wheel...?

Emilie, say one more time HUGE thanks to your housemate for lending me the wheel to get home!

Speak soon,
Mike.

I have a stock Fuji Track rear wheel which needs a cog and lockring but is otherwise serviceable going spare. Drop me a PM and I can get it to you pretty easily as I'm not working.

Glad you're OK, even if the bike isn't. Should the cab's insurance not be paying up?

I will try my best, going to call DVLA and try to find out who is his insurer.

Than call them and see if there is a chance to get him pay for it.

I have eye witness and there is cctv at this place in oxford street!

so hopefully....

I've got a 15T cog to go on that wheel. I'm not working either so no issues with getting it to you if you want it.

They only deal with passenger complaints. If you report a road incident to them they will tell you to speak to the cops. I've done it and posted about it somewhere on here..

I hope you get compensation for this but there's a good chance the fucker might get away with it.you should always call the old bill when you get hit even if you're not injured.Cabbies are experts at getting away with this shit.
For the record i've been knocked off a few times by them and got fuck all.My own fault for not getting the police involved.

^^^^^ Yeah, it's true. They won't even record your complaint if you ring the PCO.

However, it could be the case that an innocent bystander, not *obviously* connected to the incident in any traceable way... *coffs* could, perhaps call the PCO about the outrageous behaviour they witnessed on Oxford Street recently and that they are Disgusted-of-Purley and feel that the cabbies actions have brought black cabs into disrepute. And as a result, D-o-P now wants to make a complaint about the matter...

I mean, I'm just saying that *SOMEONE* might've been on that street and seen it and wants to complain. Like, not a fellow cyclist of course, cos they'd be biased, but someone like a pedestrian maybe. Know any good pedestrians who might've been there, who might want to complain about that, hmmm..?

I don't know anyone who's tried the above tactic but it's got to be worth a punt to see what comes out.

Sounds crap, arsen_design. Hope you manage to put it behind you soon and sort out a new bike, too, ideally with insurance money. Can you describe what exactly the police did/didn't do?

Well done to the tit taxi driver tonight who nearly knocked me off

Cruising down Kennington Rd tonight on the fat white line border between the Bus Lane and the road, when a taxi came ragging it down the Bus Lane to my left, undertaking me when there was a totally clear road ahead on the normal road to my right - THEN drove over to his right out of the Bus Lane back into the road!...missed me by 2 inches! What if I'd've decided to drop back in towards the curb??

Well done tit'ead!

I'm sure cabbies have a competition amongst themselves to see who can get closest without actually contacting cyclists.

Why were you riding on the white line though?

you have to be aware of the space around you, never leave a space big enough for a car to overtake you from the left.

if you see him coming down behind you, close in the gap and make him go round on the right side.

On my way back from work last night, I happened to pull to the front of this taxi (in the designated cycle zone at a set of traffic lights). He sounded his horn, which prompted me to think the lights had turned and that i was holding traffic up.... I wasn't - the lights were red. He stuck his head out of the window and shouted "You don't fucking own the road - you should be at the back of this traffic, or under my wheels".
To which i simply shrugged my shoulders.
He put his car in gear, and literally eased his way forward to nudge me. Stupidly - I put my bike down in the middle of the road and approached him.....
The dumb freak only thought i was someone else - who he's clearly had issues with previously.
What a fool, but what a danger to other cyclists.
Amidst all the horns and commotion as i got back on my bike - he stalled his car as i sped off. Holding the traffic up for a further light change.
Welcome to West Brom.

so you were riding down the middle of a two lane road taking up both lanes? With headphones in? And were suprised when someone passed you too close?

one - headphone is moot, you need your eyes, not your ears to cycle.

two - yeah cycling in the middle of two lane as oppose to the middle of one of the lane is a little 'I own the road' attitude.

Why not? I think your incident clearly outlines why not. It's shit road position and obviously the lanes were not empty otherwise you'd not be complaining about the taxi.
