| | Aberdeen riders? I've been wondering this for a while now as I'm seeing a few about? At least 2 or 3 Langsters going about. A Fuji track. A guy with a nice Daccordi frame that I spoke to one night on Union St. Someone bobbing along Market St and up Victoria Road yesterday that I couldn't get close enough to see properly due to fecking buses and a knob in a Range Rover (default car driver in B'Deen)? Anyone else prepared to battle it against hard as nails NE coastal wind and 5 seasons in the same day where Goretex is less a fabric and more an entire belief system? Where helmets are N/A because peoples heads are made of solid hope and the Granite City is so named not becauseof the building material but the mentality. Base layers means just eating more processed fat and salt and HTFDown is the modus operandi 'cos it's so fucking grim already.......and all cyclists fixed or otherwise are given special dispensation by ACC to not only jump red lights but to start a fucking fight with anyone who dares to look in their general direction as they do it....... Aye, sorry....so I suppose if you don't ask you don't get - so if anyone is looking in residing in the Energy Capital of Europe (ha!), say hi. Ta |

| | Whats up bro!! I'm the owner of said fuji track!! It's nice to see there are a few more fixed gear enthusiasts in aberdeen! What you ride dude... i hope it's not the charge plug thats been left to rust on campus?! I just got back from a night ride, needless to say i was the only one on fixed, but two of the other guys in the ride also enjoy some fixie action and they both volunteer at the bicycle co-op near aberdeen uni campus (http://becycle.org.uk/)! I'm about to start a new build on one of the raleigh frames from there! The night rides are everyother thursday and we have a local dude talking us on some pretty sweet streets! Hit me up if you ever wanna mash up the streets of aberdeen, dodge potholes and run red lights!! ben |

| | Oh aye. Formerly of Aberdeen, residing in Glasgow. Possibly heading up this weekend with the bike. Looking forward to getting a Buttery from Aitkens. Been too long since I've had one and it makes me homesick thinking about one. One thing about Aberdeen is it ain't as windy or wet as Glasgow seems to be. |

| | You got that South West weather system going on - every time I'm in Glasgow it seems to be raining and windy as hell yeah!! It's just that sea breeze off the North Sea that brings the temp right down in Aberdeen....it can be like 21 degrees and feel chilly as hell..... :( |

| | It's only in the past two months i've seen other guys on fixies, or singlespeeds that look like fixies!! But i love it, it means there will be more people to talk shop with and go riding with!! The guys who own the langster and the charge plug who jsut leave them on campus going rusty don't really seem liek they would be real bike enthusiasts lol!! Hope the forks for my new build arrive tomorrow in time for becycle to open!! |

| | Haha, I just joined the forum this weekend and I'm from Aberdeen too. I'm pretty fresh to the fixed gear thing, but have been doing regular runs last week to Cults and Culter and on sunday I went to Banchory. I bit off slightly more than I could chew, but took it easy and was fine in the end. I'm well up for doing some more runs soon when it's not quite so grey. My mates got a singlespeed lemond, and anothers got a chrome plug. I've got a frameset for sale in the classifields (surly steamroller) and am looking for something to replace it asap. If you want to hook up for a ride soon just pm me. |

| | Is the lemond like red and blue with mountain bike clamp on horns?! Think i've seen it chained up in town! And i saw a dude on the charge plug racer with red bar tape hot-tailing it down union street!! Sweet! I only joined this badboy recently too cause my mate was like: someone mentioned your fuji on lfgss!! After giving up hope of other fixie riders in this city it seems the heavens have opened lol!! I've cycled to cults and to miltimber a few times, but isn't banchory a mission away?! |

| | Nah the lemonds pretty straight, blue grey with drops. The charge racer is my mate mitchells though. Banchory's about 35 miles there and back from my flat. I did it in 3 1/2 hours so I was going pretty slow. My mates met me in drummoak and were laughing that I was just in my regular jeans and t-shirt - "I don't have any shorts though" - "not even trackies?" - "no just jeans" haha I might have to get something a bit more cycle specific if I'm going to do that kind of distance again. To be honest I was fine and made it out for a couple of pints on sunday night as well - I'm no fitness freak anyway. If anyones up for starting a rideout, mellow run on week nights or the weekend I'd be well up for it. My flatmate works in Alpine bikes and I have a few friends that work in Edinburgh Cycles that have been moaning about how serious the aberdeen roadie club is and would love a run out if gears are permitted haha. |

| | There's a ride every two weeks on thursdays leaving from elphinstone hall on aberdeen campus: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...0857253&ref=ts It's a pretty chilled out ride but good fun!! But yeah, i wanna do more gorup rides, they're fun!! I know a guy called stuz/stuart who works at alpine bikes and i've met a couple of guys from edinburgh cycles, they're all pretty cool guys!! Man, i'm always riding on jeans.. when i go long distance i jsut role them up lol! I don't feel the need to don full lycra... or maybe i'm just jealous because i could pull it off ;) EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD: LET'S GO FOR A RIDE ON SUNDAY! ANY SUGGESTIONS? If we go long distance give me a heads up so i can swap the risers around for drops!! |

| | Yeh I know stuz, yeh he's a topper. Don't know if I'll manage to fit any riding in this weekend, but Friday afternoon (after 1) and most sundays I would normally be up for something. Going to nip out for a solo blast tonight. Added myself to that facebook list - lights ehh, is that not what street lamps are for?? ;) How many folk normaly go on these runs? Is it all students? |

| | I only ride with a back light and they didn't mind! Personnally i don't beleive in that high-vis stuff! However on the last ride we hit a pretty steep hill and i wish i had had a front light just cause the streets around aberdeen are well dodge pothole-wise and i almost had a spin-out (purely cause i had no idea what was infront of me)!! Last time was like ten peeps.. but i wanna get quite a few peeps this ride to build it up and the more fixie riders the better ;) Saw a mint condition peugot road conversion on the castle gate tonight... bit of chain slack but loved the condition of the frame... can't beleive it was in such good knick!! We're building a tall-bike for torchers parade at becycle tomorrow starting from 4.p.m. ... apparantly i'm test riding that badass lol!! So bring a few beers and come watch the skills of the co-op volunteers!! I'm building a fixie for the bike co-op so any spare bits you guys might have and want to get rid of would be more than welcome!! |

| | good to see the B'Deen crew is growing, I see a vision of sleek, silent peaceful warriors riding fixed down union Street, blessed with greens all the way, colourful antidote to the granite background, pedestrians standing transfixed, momentum growing before the group splits off perfectly to side street destinations, until the next time, tbc... |

| | Has anyone noticed the douche who rides around town all day on a fully loaded tourer complete with front and rear panniers with bags, saddle and handlebar bags, always dressed in black with a scarf around his lower face, sunglasses and a helmet?! Well apart from looking like a twat he's a f**king danger!! Avoid cycling near him, he rides really erratically and as a result has put me and other cyclists/pedestrians/drivers in dangerous positions!! On a lighter note, whos is the orange fixie with bullhorns?! Looks pretty sexy!! |

| | Just joined in both senses of the word (Riding fixie for a week and a half and just joined the forum). I'd come across this forum a couple of times, but took the "London" thing at face value. So, anyway, googled for Aberdeen Fixed Speed and came across this thread. I've been riding single speed for quite awhile, mainly because I was on a really rubbish bike that slowly degraded to the point where I was left with one gear. Thanks to a Cycle2work scheme I've just picked up a Carrera Subway Zero. Cycled home, flipped the rear wheel round to fixed and having been enjoying it ever since. I cycle to work in Aberdeen all year round. Rain, snow, wind and potholes. |

| | Just recently back to Aberdeen after travelling for a year in ex colonial countries, picked myself up an old raleigh, white with red bar tape. Getting into the fixed/SS thing, today was the first time i saw a fixed gear bike in Aberdeen, riding down union street. Just put my frame in for powder coating, so if you see me on a black raleigh with red bar tape, give us a wave.. a smile.. jesus, anything... the majority of Sunday cyclists think your taking the piss when you say hello.. usual Aberdeen mentality. see you all on the streets! |

| | I'm going to try and be a bit more of a social cyclist. New bike has given me a new lease of life, I've ditched the headphones so I can say hello when I get overtaken. I cycle out of the top end of Aberdeen though, Bridge of Don and out North. Not cycled into the city centre yet (don't really see the need, better scenery out of the city). |

| | salamat, haven't been here in a while. nice to see new posts. yeah! an update on the Thursday Night Ride: we haven't had one in some time now. But we'll start again next month. Also, as far as I'm aware, we had no fixie thing going on yet. So how about we set up an email list and get something started (a pub crawl or an alley cat or something). if you send an email to info (eht) becycle.org.uk with fixie in the subject line, I'll set up an email group and get something organised. Also, we'll have a big event at the skate park (Transition Extreme) on the 10th of October - film screening and a party afterwards on all things bike, so watch out for that. best, -- daniel |

| | hi Im moving to aberdeen in a week (from helsinki). Im starting at rgu art dep. Id need a fixie back wheel or whatever its called in english. -or a flip-flop. Im hoping on finding a nice old lugged road bike which id gradually spec up. yep, so has anyone got a spear fixed gear wheel hanging around or do I have to get/order one from glascow? Im quite excited of roaming new uncharted roads... see you guys in a weeks time! |

| | I normally try and get a run or 2 in a week (20-40 miles). If anyone fancies this give me a shout, I normally go out to westhill or banchory via some of the back roads. There's about 4-5 guy's that bmx / skate that ride fixed so doing something down transitions a great idea. I've been meaning to turn up to these thursday rides but have been to busy or its been raining. I've got a Black BJ with drops FFR |
