| | if youre taking your own bike pay close attention to the following: There have been a number of updates to the Manchester Velodrome Coaching Procedures, and the advice that coaches give to riders is set out below for your guidance: General Track Safety The session Coach should stress the need for safety and good practice with the riders under their charge at all times. The following notes are for guidance and should be followed by the Coach as well as the riders: * Do not eat within 2 hrs of a training session. * Riders must not spit or clear their nose onto any surface within the Velodrome. * Riders must not chew gum whilst on the track, and must dispose of it appropriately. * Riders should wear two layers of clothing and track mitts to reduce injury risk during crashes. * If a helmet has a peak fitted, it must be removed. No other fixings to helmets are allowed, including light(s) and mascots. Track mitts must be worn. Cleats should be unworn and in good clean condition. * When not on the track riders should wear warm clothing. * Riders must not ride up or down the ramp. * No drinks are to be consumed or taken onto the blue safety zone - keep them on the ramp or in the riders "D". * Do not walk from the riders "D" to the changing rooms in cycling shoes. * Do not encourage riders to ride outside the Velodrome and then bring the bike back in as this brings more dirt onto the track surface. * Specification of a Manchester Velodrome bike: * Track bikes must have a fixed wheel, 165mm cranks, and 280mm (11") bottom bracket height (measured from floor to centre of bottom bracket), no braze ons, and must have track ends. Advise riders to check their own bikes before taking to the track, including: tyres, chain tension, wheel nuts. * Only use Schwalbe or Continental clinchers or tubulars (black tread only), 23 mm wide. Do not use Michelin tyres. * Do not use brand new tyres on the track; rub the surface with alcohol or white vinegar or other degreaser before use. Ride the first three laps on the Cote d'Azure or bottom of track. * No spare sprocket on double rear hub, bar ends in handlebars. * No quick release spindles. Wheel spindles should not extend beyond the track nuts, front and rear, and should be sawn off flush with the nut, and filed smooth. * Recommended gears for novices - 84" gear adults, 74" for 9 -12 year olds. * The gearing on Velodrome hire bikes range from 72.6" (44 x 15) to 83.9" (50 x 16) |

| | Oh man, if only I'd found this thread a week ago! Hey everyone. I used to post on lfgss back in the day, started off riding with the cambridge guys and then spent some time in london. I'm working in manchester during the week now and saw a bunch of posters for fixed stuff when I was doing some climbing in the MCC. Seems theres a lot happening up here! I've been trying to get down to the velodrome but when I rang they said all the taster sessions were fully booked until july... Can't believe I didnt check here first! When's the next session guys? |

| | Yeah sweet session. Sprints were good. fastest time was James with 18 secondsish??, which is about 30mph average around the track. Didn't get my pink slip yet again. I thought you could get this from a taster session. You need this to go onto the track skills sessions, but to be honest I can't afford a new bike, and I can't afford to keep going and paying for a hire bike, so it's a moot point at the mo..... Nes, PM me your a/c and s/c and I'll wire the £12.50 over to you. |

| | I'd like to get the pink slip! Are the track skills sessions cheaper then? When I went before we had to ride between the length of a lamb and a sheep behind the wheel of the guy in front. Mint sauce. That was Andrea's advice. Have asked for a pink slip before but never really known if I failed or the coach forget or if they were just being polite..! |

| | First you need the pink slip. Then you need to attend 3 track skills sessions I think, which cost as much as a taster, but do not include bike hire. If you fail a skill session you have to retake. After that you can attend SQT (Structured Quality Training) which is just a turn up and ride 2 hour session for only £7ish. Also, you can enter any of the track leagues. |

| | Sweet, think I'll try and get my pink slip. If anyone wants to join me on my quest (I'm guessing in July sometime) drop us a PM. LFGSSManchesterTrackTeam would be mint. I'd love to use the Velodrome more often, I'm always dead impressed we can use such an awesome facility. |
