Just fitted some 46cm ones to the tandem, for the stoker.

nitto still makes 34cm c-c, the weight doesnt matter but youre stuck with 25.4mm.
BUT they just released an NJS 1 1/8" stem with 25.4mm clamp!
price is similar to Thomson but since its made specially for their track bars the clamping area fits perfect.

this season I went from Deda Velocita 40cm c-c (clamp area got damaged) to On One 42cm(light, not too flexy but wide) to B127 39cm, really like the grip area on the B127, feels better both sprinting and just hanging on in a scratch race, only thing Im not sure about is standing starts with it.

besides the B127 I loved the last model of 3T pista bars, very deep, only bad things is they flex alot in a standing start but they feel great on tarmac compared to steel and also many alu road bars.

next I might try 37cm b123 31.8mm or 34cm b123 25.4mm for team sprint. might be too uncomfortable for my wide shoulder bones, doesnt really matter if you have wide muscular shoulders

also, first time using bar tape on sprint bars. I like it, just basic synthetic cork tape. will keep using it for now

Shame the stem only goes up to 110mm.
You can just use shims and pick from 100s of 31.8 clamp stems.

Re: width. There was a study cited on FGF where a variety of riders where all found to have a similar width between shoulder bones, apparently our skeletons don't vary much in that measurement. I remain sceptical about this information, but in practice many very large riders get on well with narrow bars like the nitto 34", the scatto in 35" and the alpina in 33"

IDK Ive tried many set ups and I think if you are using longer than 110mm you prob need a longer top tube, tho the newer track bars have less reach, maybe 20mm in some cases.

thats true but Im tall so genuinely have wider than average shoulders

But as most frames only go up to around 58cm HTT, those of us who are tall and have long arms always need excessive stem lengths. I use a 140mm stem and most other sprinters I know use 120-130-140.
It's a consequence of either (or both) the forward saddle position and the desired stretched out upper body position.

Only the Dolan df3 in the 59cm offers a solution from what I can see.

look 464p is 58.5cm, Im using a 105mm stem, 5mm spacer and 0degree stem. It feels like I have more power. (saddle tip to bar centre is my elbow-finger tips +half a hand)

previously was using a 115mm stem and bars which had extra 15mm reach, I moved the saddle back 5mm with the new 105mm stem

I am a sprinter wanting to use a Nitto B123 bar with a Thomson stem and from what I have gathered the steel B123 does not go well with the Thomson Elite stem. The B123AA seems to be OK with the Thomson but I am (perhaps unduly) concerned with the stiffness of the aluminum bar.

Does anyone riding track have any experience with the above combinations and could help me out?

I use steel 125's with a Thomson stem on the track.
No problems so far after a season and a halfs use.

I didn't like the (lack of) interface between a Thomson and the chromo nittos so swapped to a 31.8 clamp stem and shims. The shims are a pretty chunky affair for this so have been happy with them (2 years and counting), standing starts etc with no issues.

RPM, how do you find the stiffness of the 31.8 stem (X4 I presume) with the shim? I have just seen on FGF that you had the same doubts a couple of years ago with the interface. Also do you think the newer Nitto OS bars go well with the X4 stem for sprinters?

I use a pro vibe 7s stem with 34cm nitto B123cromos and velo solo shims.
Stiff as a board.
Have no experience of the OS nittos or x4s and don't see many sprinters using Thomson stems any more tbh.

I don't like any element of doubt in my equipment where safety is concerned.

I totally agree and personally I have always disliked handlebar flex. I have seen a few sprinters on the Thomson stems over here at least.

I'll look into the Pro Vibe stem too with the shim method, it seems like a very stiff stem and I see you did some research before settling on it.

RPM, sorry to bother you again with another question but from what I can gather the Pro Vibe stem only comes in 31.8mm meaning that a shim would be required to reduce the diameter from 31.8mm down to 25.4mm which seems like a lot to me - correct me if I am wrong.

Absolutely, I'd far rather use a shim for that kind of correction, where it's two decent pieces of aluminium, rather than the 'coke can' style for smaller diameters.

Can anyone recommend a decent relatively cheap set of road bars. Cycle fit suggested I change my current 46 to 42 or even 40. Was thinking about possibly getting a carbon set depending on the cost
