Special editions and that edition only really differ in colour schemes.

I just dont like the look of the bikes, if they put a straight fork on it it would deal with a lot of the problem. Not for me.

But if you like it dont let anyone put ya down, buy it, ride it & have a hoot.

langsters have that mass produced rep.... not unique enough for a classy personalised build

They do seem to have an image problem. Above that they can be built into a very light, fast and nice handling bike. I owned one a few years ago in their alloy fork days and once the forks was changed to carbon it was a very good ride. Gave a faster ride on the road than some of the old steel stuff which seem to have over inflated views!

As an owner of an 08 langster they are really great bikes - very nice quality and super light. They are very responsive on the road.

I saw one of the silver ones in a shop the other day and it is pretty ugly compared to the 08 which was a really nice paint job IMO. You won't be dissapointed if you get one - they come on ebay pretty regulalry for around 250-280 so I am not sure I would go for a new one, nearly new / second hand are very good value.

I already own one, but its the first fixed/road bike i've ridden so i don't know any better. I am looking to build something more personal from scratch and keep the langster as a runabout.

Never ridden one, but langsters look like decent bikes. Seriously wouldn't give a shit about individuality factor ... all bike have two wheels, some cranks, handlebars etc, the rest is just window dressing.

I don't like the headset and oversized stem, the wheels are shit and the colour schemes are abysmal. The best Langsters are the ones where people have changed the parts and had them painted, which nullifies the point of having one. It's a good starter bike but in hindsight if I had the money again I wouldn't buy one.

not nickpicking or anything but have you rode a bike with an actual track frame?

Yeah, I have had two Fuji tracks and a two road conversions too. It is definitely better than the 70s road bike conversions with slack geometry.

I liked the ride of the langster and fuji tracks equally, although I prefer the look of the Fuji geometry.

The langster is definitely a stiffer ride though (watch out for bumps) due it's aluminium frame, this way the only major difference I could detect. It is bloody light too - again watch out for bumps!

I have, and road geometry makes more sense (as would be expected) The Langster has road bike geometry so handles and rides like a fast road bike.
To me, the downside of track geometry is a non required high bottom bracket which highers the centre of gravity which is not a good thing on the road.
If track geometry was better for the road then road bikes would use the same as there is nothing stopping them is there?

I use a track frame on the road myself but I am not going to say it is more suited!

Just as a matter of personal taste, I don't like upwards sloping top-tubes..

If that's what floats your boat though..

Essentially, I think a lot of people don't like it because of its complete lack of "fixed gear essence" to some. I have no problem with the slack geo but it's true that there is a "uniqueness" to a vertical top tube, a single gear and no/one brake for some that emphasize the clean aspect of the bike. That to me is what makes these bikes so attractive. As soon as I move to a quiter city, brakless it will be.

I was aiming at how the langster handle more 'responsive', and track bike due to it's tight geometry, tend to be more responsive, as the langster is basically a road bike with track end.

I think the comment was just that the Langster is responsive, which I would agree with. I ride a Steamroller on the road which I would say is unresponsive yet I think it may be 1/2 a degree tighter than the Langster.
Responsive to me means when I sprint it reacts and picks up speed quickly, it is not just about how the steering feels.

Don't get me wrong, I only kept mine for a few months and then got a Mercian if I remember so I couldn't have liked it that much. All I am saying is that Langster's are not a bad ride at all.

langsters are solid bikes, as long as you are happy with the way it rides / looks, it does not matter what anyone here thinks, no?

But it's only about what I think of the bike.
Tbh if I really cared about what people thought I'd be paranoid about having an OTP but I'm not! Even if someone on here said the plug looks like a unipack...>_<

The Langster angles are .5 degree slacker than the Fuji.
The Fuji wheelbase is shorter by 10 or so mm but the Langster has a shorter chainstay.
Meh.

You missed the universal ';)' tongue in cheek signifier..

Of course it's only what you think of your bike that matters..

Personally though, I like my front teeth

Straight forks are usually the same rake as curved forks (unless that is not what you were referring to)

Could be. Although the trail of a 40mm rake straight fork will obviously be the same as the trail of a 40mm curved fork (which is what I was getting at)
An assumption is sometimes made that a straight fork has less rake.

Anyway, I too prefer the look of a straight fork on a modern frame.
