This is all received wisdom and conjecture though really, wonder when we will be able to buy the new Red and find out? | |

| | That's just not true though is it? Rear shifting is very good- that's on a par with the other two. Front shifting was sub-par, but that has been addressed now. Different generations, but I find my 2011 Force rear shift to be much better than my previous Ultegra/DA. My 2011 Apex is better than my old Ultegra/DA, come to that. |

| | Not sure- I installed/set up both the Ultegra/DA, and the Apex/Apex+Force/Force, if that helps at all. Ultegra/DA was with Shimano cables, Apex/Apex with the Sram ones, and Force/Force are Alligator iLink, the Ultegra/DA was on the bike that is now Force/Force, so same cable runs etc. |

| | The list I posted is 2012 yours for 2011. I'm sure Garmin were using Di2 whereas your list says SRAM. That's even worse for SRAM if teams are moving back to Shimano after a season. Perhaps SRAM doesn't want to cough up the sponsorship money since they've well and truly entered the market now? |

| | garmin- cervelo used sram red last season. this season they chose not to have a groupset sponsor and buy Di2 out of their budget due to demand from their riders. Guess Di2 is that much better for the pros. Want to try new red though as i like my sram. I imagine the schleck chain drop vs contador is the main reason for the chain catcher on new red... really damaged their reputation as it arguably cost him the tour. |

| | I think I've spent too much time looking at Dammit and SmallFurry's builds - I looked at the relative weights of groupsets today - Ultegra is almost 350g heavier than Force. Have worked out that I get 100g grams of that back by keeping my S-Works carbon cranks and can save another 130g back by using PX cnc'd callipers with Swiss Stops instead of the Ultegra ones. #itbegins #>>>>>weightweenies |

| | A lot of people say that Ultregra is kept artificially heavy to make DA more desirable. I've not studied the components side by side to have a view on that. I would take Di2 Dura Ace in a second, with weight penalty. But, given that my frame is for cables, and the impending obsolescence of the 7900 Di2, I will likely stay SRAM. If you take the time to look at the weight then you start wondering "why is this so heavy when it doesn't need to be?" |
