had an enjoyable morning, buying tweed with the redoubtable wibble. Thanks to harry, whose tip off on a vintage place on cheshire st, lead to the purchase of some lovely plus fours. My outfit is pretty much complete, jacket, cravat, long university scarf, plus fours, waistcoat and flat cap. All that is required now is some argyle socks.
now really really looking forward to this ride...

As a newbie to LFGSS and intrigued by "Upcoming: The Tweed Run" in the top right of the screen, I clicked only to stumble upon this thread! Faaaarking love it! Nice poster.....

I don't know anyone on here but thought this was too good to miss seeing as I recently purchased a dashing 2 piece tweed number, just need to dig out a suitable deer stalker and pipe....assuming all is welcome, I'm in!

Managed to find the most perfect Huntsman jacket yesterday. Fits wonderfully too. Just having the sleeves let out a little so that it doesn't look too daft on the bicycle.

And I picked up a lovely merino tank top today, which coupled with a nice long sleeve shirt and thin scarf will be perfect.

And my facial hair is coming along, I'm wondering if I should go the whole hog and get it cut throat shaved on the morning into the shape I want... choppers into moustache is currently the idea.

All I'm lacking is some breeks and a decent flat cap. But I'll wait until I get the jacket back before I sort those out, wouldn't want to clash distastefully.

Hmm, i've been giving some thought to my facial hair as well. My chops are about 6yrs old now and as straight and perfect as they'll ever be so they're not gonna get touched. Not shaving til just before the ride to leave my options open.
Can anyone recommend a moustache style to compliment straight chops? Also a good barbers in the arsenal area for the final shaping?

Also, Harry.Major/JD have either of you got any good waistcoats in at the moment to suit a barbour and dark green breaks? Not sure of chest size but roughly m/l in tshirt sizes. Also a suitable cravat or silk scarf?

Actually, tempted to turn up villainously unshaven. Or would this result in banishment from the ride on general principles?

I know... I'm more than a little chuffed.

And I'll happily do so, I've been in there before and they're a friendly lot. I love Saville Row, my first ever trip up there was related to a book on The Beatles and a trip to the roof where they played, but I hung around afterwards and looked in the shops. I couldn't wear half of what is up there, but the workmanship is just something else.

Ed, I bought a tweed waistcoat that may well be surplus to my requirements.. I got a bit excited and put in a bid and subsequently bought a lovely jumper too

If you want I'll post pics when it arrives in the mail?

Almost as expensive as Rapha! Their saddle bags also rock and are within budget.

Holy poop on a stick thats a pricey bag! and very nice it is too.
Congrats to Teddy for sorting out sponsors and prizes, turning this from a mere well dressed jaunt to the social event of the season. A round of huzzahs will be in order on the day methinks.

Whats the score with the prizes and such like, i assume there wont be time/space on saville for such frivolities so is there a contingent from Brooks meeting us at one of the respite stops?
I suspect Harry.Major could well be in the running for dapperest gent seeing as the man has a whole gentlemen's boutique to choose from!
Good luck to all, especially for the hotly contested facial hair prize. Will a delegation from the handlebar club be judging this one?
I may be in the running for 'bike most quickly assembled and untested ridden by a fixed gear novice' category. However, i doubt that such a contest exists. damn.

If it does I'll be giving you a bloody good run for your money. I've only got handlebars so far so still a little way to go.

We thank you for your kind invitation and we would be delighted to attend. We are hoping that our 1950s Hetchins and 1930 Buckley velocipedes would be regarded as suitable conveyances?
In the vernacular we are hoping for a spiffing time. Tally Ho!

Incidentally, would any of you chaps have some tweed a Gentleman could borrow for this Saturday? I'm off to the Volupte Lounge, which means the finishing touches to my Gentleman's costume will have to be purchased on Sunday.

To fit a man of five foot 7 inches, with a thirty inch waist. Ideally a jacket of some ilk, and possibly a waistcoat.

Good Gosh

What is this chap wearing for winter? How can he have manged so far through the cold season without an adequate supply of tweed. Or is he one of those warm weather pygmy chappies, he appears to be of alarmingly short stature or possibly some acquaintance of Laird Sano - a rogue by any other name.
