Have a look at my new spoke length calculator web app!

Having build my first wheel recently and used Damon Rindard's spokecalc I thought that this excellent app could use a bit of a face lift. Hence I have re-written it as a web application that runs in your browser.

Try it out under: http://lenni.info/edd/

I'm keen to hear some feedback on its functionality and user experience. Enjoy!

Love the simplicity. It's really effective but might need somewhere where you can type in the measurements (with explanation of how to do measurements) just incase you can't find your hub or rim.

Nice, it would be great if you could take submissions of new/different parts? Creating an official Spocalc master version or something...

i think a pull-down of different makes available would be better than having to guess names, also i couldnt get Hope Pro 2's....? or mavic 717's....? or any actual results on the calculator? maybe its me. i think if you picked all your right parts then hit a 'go' button, that would be better.

Maybe I'll implement search suggestion a la Google Suggest.

I have added all the hubs and rims from spokecalc.xls plus everything from Arup's website. If it wasn't in there, it won't be in my database. I'll add functionality that lets users submit measurements. 650 rims aren't fundamentally different, aren't they? Therefore shouldn't be a problem, right?

Thanks for the comments guys!

Don't design it for IE. People who use IE shouldn't be riding fixed anyway.. it's far too dangerous for their precious little selves.

Excellent work. Like it. I have the ERD for H Plus Son which I measured last week during a build - 557mm. I'll keep adding more hub specs to my site as and when I get them. Feel free to take it. But if you implement a way to enter data on your site then I could pop it in there too. You'll need lots of validation checks so that erroneous data doesn't get in there such as flange diameters of 200mm or whatever.

Only thing I don't really like is all the Red that flashes around when you've selected a search result. Using red signifies that there has been an error, rather than something successfully happened.

otherwise, nice one.

You might loose a few people (those living below the gamma line) with black on dark blue for your spokes and crosses selected boxes.

Squint or otherwise put your eyes out of focus and you can see what might and might not be visible on a crap monitor.

But what about the cost of the spokes?!?!!?! I would have used your calculator in good faith that it was accurate. What if i ended up with £40 worth of unusable spokes that I couldn't get a refund on?!!?!

I am forcing no-one to use this and encourage discussion about it on here. If you find something that isn't right, put it in this thread.

As I said, the calculator uses the same formula as Damon Rinard's one, which has a large amount of credibility and was recommended by Sheldon Brown.

I'm only winding you up, but anyway, I think you should put in a disclaimer, that you are not responsible for the content, accuracy etc. and that it's intended as a guide. Not that I think it's actually going to turn out inaccurate, but you know, it's always good to have a disclaimer, just in case.

Anyway, now I know the correct spoke length for when I buy a pair of open pro's for my formula hubs, so.. cheers!
