Spanks. Shit, I just had a thought - my Garmin might only have UK maps. Maybe time to investigate those open source maps?

If you have the standard Navigator maps then I think they cover Majorca

    Ok, thanks Hippy.

That beddit gadget looks interesting. I've signed up.

If you didn't see it then it's worth watching the Horizon programme about QS that was on a few weeks ago. Some quite interesting stuff in it. Think it was called "Monitor Me".

Yeah but that's not very "cloud" is it? ;)

I think I'll need to adjust my phone tariff. I was curious about data usage, after a day of using Google Music on the go. On average I seem to use 2 - 10mb a day, and about 300mb a month. On Tuesday, after several hours of Google Music I'd used 260mb! I'll be looking for an unlimited plan as soon as I can change my Three contract.

I'm just coming to terms with the impact of using Google Music on data usage :-) If my calculations are correct then it will take a little over 7 hours of continuous play to use up 1GB of data....

(That assumes that you are listening to music with a constant bit-rate of 320 kbit/s. I don't know how Google Music adjusts bit-rate for the bandwidth that it actually finds to be available.)

I'm expecting mine to arrive tomorrow. Good times. Currently uploading some tunes to Google Music and preparing for a more cloud-oriented lifestyle :)

I ordered the bumper and had subsequently been thinking about getting some sort of case. But on further reflection I reckon I might just go for a sleeve of some sort. Any advice?

I have also tried on and off since 8am and have not managed to buy one :)

Has anyone heard of any retail stores where you can get one SIM-free?

I pay 15 pounds for my t-mobile sim only deal and have a fair use of 750mb on my "unlimited data". I think I am being diddled. I may well call them and say I am leaving.

I'm currently with T-Mobile and they don't appear to be at all competitive in the SIM-only market, and so I'm pleased to be leaving them (despite having been with them for a good few years).

I'm thinking about which SIM-only deal to get as well. Here are my thoughts...

From 6th November GiffGaff (who use O2) will be:
£10 for 250 mins + unlimited texts + 1GB mobile internet (tethering allowed)
£12 for 250 mins + unlimited texts + unlimited mobile internet (tethering not allowed)

(GiffGaff did a consultation on their price change recently and you can find a slide show on this page.)

Virgin (who use Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile/Orange)) look like the closest competitor:
    £10 for 250 mins + unlimited texts + 1GB mobile web
    £12 for 1200 mins + unlimited texts + 1GB mobile web
£12 for 125 mins + unlimited texts + unlimited mobile web

It looks like Virgin's "unlimited mobile web" is subject to a 10GB monthly limit after which speed is reduced (during the day) until the end of the month. It's not clear from those T&Cs whether tethering is allowed on Monthly contracts (although a post from a Virgin employee in the support forum suggests that tethering is allowed). It is made clear elsewhere that tethering is not allowed on PAYG contracts.

So, given that I want to be able to tether ocassionally, I reckon I might try the £10 deal on GiffGaff and see how much data I use. If I exceed the 1GB I'll probably switch to the 12GB deal on Virgin (and hope I'm ok with the lower minutes).

If you want to "avoid Google where possible" then Android is not for you.
