No problemo, it is a very strong alloy seatpost (Thomson) the kind large muscley mountain bikers jump over logs and fly down mountains on.

It is only the very surface of the post that emits light (around 0.42mm).

Yes, the brightness is reliant on the input voltage and the area of the surface you are illuminating - but I don't mind it being so bright, I was just pointing out that I was surprised just how bright it turned out, not complaining.

And yes a dimmer would work also, the inverter I am using has a switch to make it flash on and off and a small dial to control the speed of the flash, you can take it right up to about 80hz, it looks surreal when it is at full pelt, but I suspect any epileptic cyclists or car drivers behind you might not like that !!! :)
