  • Hi Everyone!

So the OPEN is very close to being announced officially! It will be the bank holiday weekend of the 24th and 25th of August!

There will be loads to do in the run up to the tournament (there will be stuff to do on site from the 22nd till the 26th) and over the weekend so if you want to help out even just for a day or in the run up, stick your name on this list!

For the court build and take down i will have beer and pizza/coffee and cakes! We are hoping to sort out t-shirts for all the heavy volunteers too but we haven't had it confirmed it yet.

I am hoping to compile a volunteer schedhule (depending on numbers)which would mean people who can volunteer over the days of the tourney will only have to do a few hours work each day so it should be pretty easy to do your bit and have a great time too!

Here are a few tasks that we will need to cover 'on the day' and around the tournament.

    COURT BUILD nik/landslide(friday)/robmanc(poss)/rik(fri)/pajac/antonio/emm(fri+mon)/woody/max
    HOUSING ben puncture
    RUBBISH/RECYCLING chukker/zoe/timwarin/ antonio
    BANNERS/LOGOS zoe
    FOOD benbeagle/
    BEER DISTRIBUTION rincewind/
    FORMAT (Hbombs dealio)
    WHIPPING oliver/woody/
    REFFING ryan(headref)/emm/woody (?)/tim(?)/chukker
    PARTY GUIDE!
    MECHANIC
    FIRST AID /jimmy/apollo/jess
    TOILETS
END OF DAY CLEAR UP chukker
REGISTRATION (John is doing the pre-tourney stuff but we will need extra bike checkers/people to help hand out forms etc on the day) agata
PODIUM (John H is the main man but might need helpers!))

UNDEFINED DUTIES (general dogsboddying..filling in the gaps etc.) oliver/EEI/robmanc/i078/antonio/louis/teenslain/bells/rickster/future/caspar

    TRANSPORTATION i078/max

    COURT TAKE DOWN hypreallah/nik/ryan/antonio

So if any of that looks like something you want to help with please fire your name down and in brackets add the task you would like particularily (if you have a preference). I will try to organise a volunteers meeting before hand to go over everything and make sure everyone is happy and i will post up here.

I know a load of you have already offered to help with tasks but if you could add your name to the list anyway that'd help me keep it all in one place.

Finally, if you are an out of towner but fancy helping out stick your name down anyway. You will get preference for housing!!

    So that's it!

    Thanks guys!

    Nik

  • Dunno if it's been decided yet whether there'll be games on the Friday, but if not I'll be in town anyway and happy to help with court building or whatever.

  • Hey nik I've already volunteered to do housing if that would be helpful? On the day can help with the rubbish etc and obv end of day clear up.

  • Cheers Ben, glad to hear you are still up for it! We are just setting up/deciding the registration process at the minute. John will be handling that and there will be a spreadsheet that the two of you can use together. I will be emailing you shortly with more info.

  • As I've posted in "Polo Visitors" thread If only I will find any place to sleep in London between approx. 16th and 26th of August I will be glad to help in court building process :)

thanks chris! i will put you on my list!

  • If I'm down early or leaving late I'll come help build/take down/whatevers needed.

  • Happy to help with anything on the days and can do things beforehand (although I'm away for the last week of July and the first week of August). I don't have any preferences, so put me down for whatever. I can't help with housing, unfortunately.

  • all those who can help with housing please check the thread on the LPC forum, thanks

thanks a lot oliver. your unending support of bike polo is awesome!

perhaps have a look at the list and see if theres anything in particular you fancy. otherwise i will keep you on the "general" list and organise some tidying duties or something like that if thats ok?

omg i have always thought that was iain!! hahah! sorry rob! thanks mate, let me know what you are up to then!

  • The general list is fine, although I wouldn't mind having a specific assigned task. Happy to do cleaning up, but it doesn't tend to be much work, as many people do muck in. :)

  • Subscribed. I'll be away till mid August, but perhaps can help with something which doesn't involve lifting or heavy stuff (doctor's orders) which isn't probably much.
Also, like last year, I might provide an emergency housing for a couple of people.

  • Ha! Otter confusion. Depending on when I get down I'll help out wherever is needed, put me on a reserves list or something.

great! cleaning up is easy to achieve i agree although i really wants us to keep on top of the recycling. what about a bit of whipping? you know, where you tell people where they have to play and when..it involves shouting at people through a megaphone/over a pa. its quite a fun job but also intense so the more designated whips i have the shorter the whipping shifts can be!

    haha srsly!

cool, thanks rob i will stick you on the general. cheers.

cheers! theres always putting loo roll in the toilets or if you like shouting at people i have some good jobs for you! cheers for offering to house a bit if necessary! i think ben has a separate thread for that on the lpc forum. are you able to see that?

I like whipping (did it at the EHBPC in 2009 together with Josh), but it took me a while to get to know the teams (little prior knowledge of Continental visitors etc., but I could swot up beforehand).

  • I'll whip, i'mgood at shouting. happyto help all day friday too

  • Hi Nik,
happy to help with anything on the days before, i can take the 22nd and 23rd off work :-) If needed, I have a small car that i can use if anything needs transporting

Also depending on the format (was thinking to play for the hell of it/character building, not sure yet...), happy to help during the tourney too.

  • Ha, cheers, Ben (punkture) for the comment. I love the London Open.
