  • Just passed what looked to be a very nasty accident southbound on southampton row. articulated lorry stopped in the road at an angle, a battered green ladies mountain bike by the side of the road a crown of horrified onlookers and paramedics peering under the wheels of the trailer. ambulances were just arriving on the scene as i passed. Did not look good.

  • weirdly, at the previous junction a heavy tipper lorry was turning left as i was coming up behind it. it had a big "cyclists beware" sign on it and a very audible "beep beep - warning this vehicle is turning left!" siren thing. i was just thinking how good it is that the message is getting out there when... not even one block later.

  • none of that sounds at all good

    fingers crossed

  • Air ambulances are at the scene. I work up the road and have been advised not to travel that way due to road closures. Not sounding positive, but fingers crossed.

  • oh dear. i've only just stopped feeling shakiy after witnessing the immerdiate aftermath of this. feel awful for all involved. here's hoping for a positive ending to this one.

  • sounds horrible, fingers crossed for all involved

  • oh no!! hope southampton row hasn't claimed another cyclist..
    fingers crossed, ride safe y'all
    xx

I was thinking it might be good if we could have these on buses too. At least just the "avoid undertaking" sign.

  • this was reported last night on the radio, said the lady was stable - thoughts & prayers for a speedy recovery

It's a horrible junction, this would be the third in two years±!

  • I cycled past that yesterday as well. Ambulance's/helicopters gone, but tons and tons of police everywhere.

The new road system on the east side of Russel square is great, but they really needed to let people know about the changes somehow. I turned into a cab whilst coming north assuming he'd turn right.

Anyway, from what I saw I assumed it was a death, glad to hear a glimmer of hope that the cyclist survived.

  • yeah me too. was sure it was a fatality. just can't imagine how someone could survive that.

for clarity, it wasn't at the junction, it was on a straight bit of road, southbound, maybe a hundred metres south of russell square. i didn't see the incident but from where the lorry was stopped it looked as if it had been crossing from the right to the left lane, where it was stopped stradding both.

  • Hi all, apologies for the direct approach.

Dooks, or any other witness to this accident or it's immediate aftermath, are you able/willing to contact me via email to discuss?
